The Chief Whip of the Abia State House of Assembly and Member representing Umuahia South State Constituency, Hon Emeka Tommy Jacob-Obioma, has called on Christians and Nigerians at large to embrace the profound lessons of sacrifice, hope, and compassion as they commemorate Good Friday.
In a statement marking the solemn occasion, Obioma emphasized that Good Friday is not merely a day of remembrance, but a sacred moment that calls for deep reflection on the redemptive sacrifice of Jesus Christ and its relevance in addressing the moral and social challenges confronting society.
He noted that the suffering and crucifixion of Christ symbolize the ultimate act of love and selflessness, urging citizens to draw inspiration from this divine example in their daily interactions and collective responsibilities.
“Good Friday reminds us that even in the face of pain and adversity, there is hope for renewal and victory. The sacrifice of Christ is a powerful testament that love, humility, and righteousness can overcome even the darkest moments,” Obioma stated.
The lawmaker further stressed the need for Nigerians to cultivate resilience in the face of current economic and social difficulties, adding that the message of the cross provides both spiritual strength and a moral compass for navigating uncertain times.
“Let Christ’s sacrifice renew our hope and resilience as a people. At a time when many are burdened by hardship and uncertainty, we must hold firmly to faith and remain steadfast in doing what is right. Our challenges are real, but they are not insurmountable when we are guided by God’s principles,” he said.
Obioma also called for a renewed commitment to compassion and unity, urging Nigerians to support one another and extend kindness to the less privileged, especially during the Easter season.
“This is a time to show love in action. We must be intentional about caring for the vulnerable, promoting peace, and fostering unity across our communities. The essence of Christ’s sacrifice is reflected in how we treat one another,” he added.
