International businessman, philanthropist, and political figure from Abia North, High Chief Onyekwere Akym Uche (OAU), has called on Christians across Nigeria to draw enduring strength and hope from the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ as they navigate the prevailing personal and socio-economic challenges confronting the nation.
In a goodwill message to mark Good Friday, OAU described the solemn occasion as a profound reminder of resilience, faith, and divine purpose, urging christians not to lose sight of the redemptive power embedded in Christ’s suffering and ultimate sacrifice.
He noted that while many Nigerians are currently grappling with economic pressures, insecurity, and uncertainty, the message of Good Friday offers a beacon of hope and reassurance that trials are not permanent, but can lead to triumph when anchored in faith.
“Good Friday speaks to the very heart of human struggle and divine victory. It reminds us that even in the darkest moments, there is a higher purpose unfolding. Christ endured pain and rejection, yet His sacrifice brought salvation and hope to humanity. This should inspire us never to give up, regardless of the challenges we face,” Akym stated.
The founder of the OAU foundation further emphasized the need for Christians to embody the virtues exemplified by Christ, particularly humility, perseverance, and unwavering trust in God. He stressed that these values are essential not only for personal growth but also for national renewal.
“In times like these, we must rise above despair and hold firmly to our faith. The sacrifice of Christ teaches us patience, endurance, and the power of righteousness. As a people, if we embrace these virtues, we can overcome our collective challenges and build a more just and prosperous society,” he added.
Onyekwere Akym also called on leaders at all levels to reflect deeply on the significance of Good Friday, urging them to adopt a more people-centered approach to governance that prioritizes sacrifice, service, and accountability.
“Leadership must be rooted in sacrifice. Just as Christ gave Himself for the good of humanity, those in positions of authority must be willing to put the needs of the people above personal interests. This is the path to true progress and sustainable development,” he said.
He further encouraged Nigerians to extend love and support to one another, especially to the vulnerable and less privileged, noting that acts of kindness and compassion are practical expressions of the Good Friday message.
“As we reflect on this sacred day, let us be intentional about lifting others. A word of encouragement, a helping hand, or a simple act of kindness can make a significant difference. That is how we keep the spirit of Good Friday alive in our communities,” Akym remarked.
