The Honourable Member representing Umuahia North State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Barr. Anderson Kelechi Akaliro, has urged Christians and Nigerians at large to draw enduring lessons of strength, patience, and steadfast faith from the significance of Good Friday.
Speaking, Hon Akaliro described Good Friday as a defining moment in Christian history that underscores the triumph of faith over adversity, encouraging citizens to remain resolute despite the socio-economic challenges facing the nation.
He noted that the suffering and crucifixion of Jesus Christ embody the ultimate test of endurance and obedience, stressing that the lessons therein remain profoundly relevant in today’s world.
“Good Friday inspires strength, patience, and unwavering faith. It reminds us that even in the midst of trials and suffering, there is a higher purpose that leads to victory. Christ’s journey to the cross was marked by pain, yet it culminated in redemption for humanity,” Akaliro stated.
The lawmaker emphasized that Nigerians must internalize these virtues as they confront present-day realities, urging them not to succumb to despair but to hold firmly to hope and faith in God.
“In times of uncertainty, we must learn to be patient and steadfast. The sacrifice of Christ teaches us that challenges are not permanent. With faith and perseverance, we can overcome difficulties and emerge stronger as individuals and as a nation,” he said.
Akaliro further called for a renewed commitment to righteous living, noting that the essence of Good Friday extends beyond remembrance to a conscious effort to uphold moral values and integrity in all aspects of life.
“This sacred day calls us to examine our lives and align our actions with the principles of righteousness, humility, and love. It is not enough to commemorate the sacrifice of Christ; we must reflect it in how we live and relate with others,” he added.
He also urged Nigerians to embrace unity and compassion, particularly towards the vulnerable, stressing that acts of kindness and solidarity are practical expressions of faith.
“Let us use this period to show empathy and extend a helping hand to those in need. The spirit of Good Friday is one of sacrifice and love, and we must embody these virtues in our communities,” Akaliro remarked.
Addressing leadership responsibilities, the legal luminary called on fellow public office holders to emulate the selfless example of Christ by prioritizing the welfare of the people and promoting justice and fairness in governance.
“Leadership is about service and sacrifice. As leaders, we must be guided by integrity and a genuine commitment to the common good. That is the only way we can build trust and achieve meaningful development,” he noted.
