The Member representing Isuikwuato State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Lucky Udoka Nweke Johnson, has raised a grave security alarm on the floor of the House following recent violent attacks that claimed the lives of two young men in Isuikwuato Local Government Area.
Rising on a matter of urgent public importance, the lawmaker drew the attention of the Assembly to what he described as a disturbing resurgence of criminal activities within the constituency, stressing that the situation requires immediate and coordinated intervention to prevent further loss of innocent lives.
Hon. Johnson informed the House that on January 28, 2026, a 35-year-old man, Mr. Uche Simon, was shot dead by suspected armed assailants while returning home. He disclosed that the attackers also made away with the victim’s motorcycle, an act he described as both cruel and senseless. According to him, security agencies are currently working with community leaders and local vigilante groups to track down and apprehend those responsible.
In a related incident, the lawmaker reported that another life was tragically cut short the following day. He stated that on January 29, 2026, a 19-year-old motor boy, Awba Abdulsalam, was shot and killed at Nnunya Junction in Isuikwuato. He noted that the back-to-back incidents have thrown the communities into fear and mourning, while raising serious concerns about the safety of residents and commuters in the area.
Condemning the killings in strong terms, Hon. Johnson emphasized that the persistent insecurity around parts of Isuikwuato, particularly areas bordering neighboring states, must no longer be treated with indifference. He warned that failure to act decisively could embolden criminal elements and further undermine public confidence in safety and governance.
To address the situation, the lawmaker urged the House and relevant authorities to consider a number of strategic measures. These include enhanced collaboration between security agencies in Abia and Imo States, especially around the Okigwe axis, to ensure effective intelligence sharing and coordinated operations against criminal networks operating across state boundaries.
He also called for the dismantling of informal settlements around Abia State University and the Uta Farm axis, noting that similar steps previously taken at the Lokpa cattle market had yielded positive security outcomes. According to him, such environments often provide cover for criminal activities if left unregulated.
In addition, Hon. Johnson advocated the installation of solar-powered surveillance cameras at strategic locations within Isuikwuato, describing the initiative as a proactive step toward crime prevention, improved monitoring, and rapid response by security agencies.
The lawmaker concluded by offering prayers for the repose of the souls of the departed and extending his condolences to their families. He reassured the people of Isuikwuato of his unwavering commitment to working with the Abia State Government, security agencies, and community stakeholders to restore peace and ensure the safety of lives and property across the constituency.
His presentation was received with sober attention in the Assembly, underscoring the growing urgency of addressing insecurity in parts of Abia State through collective and sustained action.
