Farmers across Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State have received substantial quantities of agricultural inputs from the administration of Gov Alex Otti, in a renewed effort to strengthen agricultural productivity, enhance food security and improve the economic wellbeing of farmers in the state.

The farm inputs were distributed to farmers on Friday, September 5, 2026, through the Abia State Ministry of Agriculture, as part of the state government's broader agricultural intervention aimed at equipping farmers with the resources required to increase production and achieve better yields.
The distribution exercise attracted farmers from different communities in Ikwuano, who turned out to receive the inputs provided under the initiative. The intervention shows the Otti administration's growing emphasis on agriculture as a critical component of Abia's economic transformation and food security agenda.
The Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Cliff Agbaeze, who has demonstrated strong commitment to the sustained distribution of farm inputs to farmers across the state, was represented at the exercise by various team leaders from the Ministry of Agriculture, including officials of the Agricultural Development Programme (ADP).

Speaking during the exercise, the Executive Mayor of Ikwuano Local Government council, Dr. Anthony Nzeribe Nwaubani, who fully participated in the distribution, commended Gov. Otti for what he described as a farmer-friendly approach to governance and his administration's deliberate efforts to empower people at the grassroots.
Nwaubani told Ndi Ikwuano that the farm input intervention was evidence that Gov Otti has the interests of the people at heart, noting that the governor's policies and programmes were designed to create opportunities for citizens to become more productive and economically self-reliant.

“I want to assure Ndi Ikwuano that our Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has good thoughts for us. He is thinking about our welfare, our productivity and how to make our people economically stronger. What we are witnessing today is another demonstration of his commitment to the people,” Nwaubani said.

The Mayor explained that access to quality farm inputs would enable farmers to adopt improved varieties, increase their productivity and achieve better harvests, stressing that the intervention would have significant implications for household incomes and the availability of food in the local government.
He said the initiative would also contribute to food security while opening new avenues for economic empowerment, particularly for rural dwellers whose livelihoods depend substantially on agriculture.

Nwaubani further expressed
appreciation to the Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Cliff Agbaeze, and the various team leaders and officials of the Ministry who participated in the exercise, commending them for their dedication to ensuring that government agricultural interventions reach the intended beneficiaries.

“I sincerely appreciate the Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Cliff Agbaeze, and his able team for their passion and commitment to supporting our farmers. We are grateful for the efforts being made to ensure that these inputs get to the people who need them,” he added.

The Mayor urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the farm inputs, encouraging them to remain committed to farming and take advantage of the opportunities being created by the state government to expand agricultural production.

He also assured the farmers of the continued support and cooperation of the Ikwuano Local Government administration, noting that agriculture remains central to the development of the area, given Ikwuano's rich agricultural potential and its strategic importance to Abia's food production.
The distribution of the inputs is expected to strengthen farmers' capacity to cultivate improved varieties, boost yields, reduce production constraints and enhance the availability of agricultural produce in local markets.

The intervention also reflects the administration's broader strategy of moving beyond subsistence agriculture towards a more productive and economically viable agricultural sector capable of creating jobs, improving rural livelihoods and contributing meaningfully to Abia State's economic growth.
