The Executive Mayor of Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State, Hon. Dr Anthony N. Nwaubani, has inspected the recently renovated and re-roofed Pavilion at the Ikwuano Local Government Secretariat, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to delivering modern infrastructure and improving public facilities across the council area.
Dr Nwaubani conducted the inspection on Thursday, September 3, 2026, in the company of members of the Ikwuano 7th Legislative Assembly and some Supervisors in the Local Government Council. The inspection provided an opportunity for the council leadership to assess the current state of the facility and discuss plans for its further transformation.
During the inspection, the Mayor explained that the renovation and re-roofing of the Pavilion represented only an initial phase of his administration’s intervention. He disclosed his intention to fully retrofit the facility to give it a modern outlook and make it more functional for official engagements, public activities and other important programmes of the council.
According to him, the planned retrofitting would go beyond cosmetic improvements, as the administration was interested in creating an environment that reflects the importance of the local government secretariat as a centre of administration and service delivery.
“The renovation and re-roofing of this Pavilion is just the beginning. Our intention is to fully retrofit the facility and give it the standard and functionality expected of a modern public infrastructure. We want the Secretariat to reflect the quality of administration and service we are committed to providing to the people of Ikwuano,” Dr Nwaubani said.
The Mayor further emphasised that infrastructure development remained a major priority of his administration, noting that the council would continue to identify facilities requiring attention and progressively improve them. He said the objective was to ensure that government infrastructure within the council headquarters and communities across Ikwuano was brought to a standard capable of supporting effective service delivery.
“Modern infrastructure is central to our development agenda. We are not limiting our interventions to the Council Secretariat. We are looking at different parts of Ikwuano and identifying areas where strategic infrastructure can improve the lives of our people. Our commitment is to continue delivering projects that have practical value and lasting impact,” Nwaubani stated.
The inspection was attended by several members of the Ikwuano 7th Legislative Assembly, including the Leader of the Assembly and Councillor representing Oboro Ward 1, Rt. Hon. Ejike Williams; the Leader of the House Committee on Works and Councillor representing Oboro Ward 3, Hon. Akobundu Agomuo; Hon. Chikezie Chidiebere, Councillor representing Ibere Ward 1; and the Minority Leader of the Ikwuano 7th Legislative Assembly, Hon. Ejike Ukazu.
Also present were the Supervisor for Works, Hon. Lucky Nwamuo, and the Supervisor for Agriculture, Hon. Pst. Emeka Ogbonna, alongside other council officials who joined the Mayor in assessing the facility and discussing the administration’s broader infrastructure plans.
The involvement of the legislative and executive arms of the council in the inspection displayed the administration’s emphasis on institutional collaboration in pursuing development objectives. The engagement also provided an avenue for the council leadership to deliberate on the effective utilisation and further enhancement of the facility.
The proposed full retrofitting of the Pavilion is expected to complement the recent renovation and re-roofing works, potentially transforming the facility into a more suitable venue for council functions, official gatherings and other activities requiring a properly equipped public space.
Nwaubani’s focus on infrastructure forms part of his broader development agenda for Ikwuano, with attention directed towards projects capable of improving the physical environment, strengthening public institutions and enhancing the overall experience of residents interacting with government facilities.
The Mayor reiterated that his administration would sustain its intervention in infrastructure across Ikwuano Local Government Area, stressing that development must extend beyond the council headquarters to communities in all parts of the LGA.
“We have a responsibility to ensure that development is felt across Ikwuano. Every ward and community matters. As resources become available, we will continue to prioritise projects that address genuine needs and contribute meaningfully to the development of our local government,” he added.
The inspection therefore marked another step in the council administration’s efforts to upgrade public infrastructure, with the planned retrofitting of the Pavilion expected to further enhance the appearance, functionality and utility of the Ikwuano Local Government Secretariat.
