On Tuesday Sept 08, 2026, the Head of Service ( HOS) of the Ikwuano LGA, Mars Comfort Onyeabor, addressed the staff of the Council.
She commended the Mayor, Dr Anthony Nwaubani for making time always to interact with the staff and showing serious interest in anything that concerns the staff.
She announced to the staff that the State's Joint Agricultural Intervention Committee for Ikwuano would need two qualified persons from the Council to be handling the marketing of the Council's Agric products particularly their special Pepper. She disclosed that the Mayor approved that the marketers be sourced from among the staff. Interested staff were informed to apply.
She praised the staff for their efforts so far and urged them to shun indiscipline and unprofessional conduct at all times.
In his address, the Mayor thanked the staff for their efforts and the support and cooperation given him by the staff.
He noted that any achievement recorded by the Local Government is driven by collective effort.
On staff welfare, the Mayor informed the staff that the issue of delayed salary payment for those maintaing salary accounts with Mayfresh MFB had been addressed. This was confirmed as those involved informed the HOS that they had received the salary.
The Mayor used the opportunity to update staff on the new two- storey administrative block described as currently one of the best and of its kind in the State in terms of its facilities for Persons with Disabilities- PWDs.
The admin block expected to be completed in November 2026, would address most of the office accommodation challenges of the Council.
He appreciated the staff for maintaining a clean environment and their initiative in regularly helping on their own to keep the Council premises clean.
The meeting discussed the unfortunate incident widely circulated in the social media space Saturday 05Sept 2026 by Ikwuano TV - a private business of Kelvin Orji and a forestry staff of Michael Okpara University of Umudike. Kelvin Orji has been on vindictive mission against the Mayor since he was asked to drop the "Ikwuano" in his private business name.
Abia State Orientation Agency in Ikwuano, led by Lemy Odemelam, Catechist Ambrose Jonah of Asepa Umuahia Zone and some stakeholders had informed a Personal Assistant of the Mayor that would engage in cleaning Ikwuano Council premises as the Orientation Agency embarked on assisting in the cleaning of the 17 Local Government Areas in the Abia State. As the Mayor was involved in a burial of a relative on the Saturday, he gave his PA money to entertain them and expressed appreciation of the new gesture.
Surprisingly, instead of cleaning the Council premises, they brought in the Ikwuano TV/ Kelvin Orji to video cassava farm land cultivated last year at the back of the Council premises and stage-manage a video claiming and telling the world that the Ikwuano Local Government headquarters was too dirty, covered by bushes and "...deteriorating...".
Mr Odemenam was ridiculously bold to tell the world that his office was in the bush and with all the staff he has, he left the bush around his office waiting for the Mayor or Management staff to clear it for him.
Catechist Ambrose Jona was seen in the video clearing grass and boasting that "we have decided to take back our Local Government..."
A tour of the Council premises by staff after the meeting showed that nothing was done by either ASEPA or members of the Abia State Orientation Agency. except the burning of dried leaves from the trees.This evidence is clear
It has become obvious that most those stakeholders came through the backdoor on a criminal coordinated conspiracy and blackmail led by Catechist Ambrose Jonah (of Asepa Umuahia Zone) and Lemy Odoenenam of National Orientation Agency to run down the Mayor, management and staff of the Ikwuano LGA for misplaced personal interest
Yet Catechist Ambrose Jonah being hunted by his conscience has run to the Police to accuse the Mayor sponsoring a staff protest against him.
The Mayor asked the staff not to engage on their usually second Tuesday monthly and regular clean up exercise in the Council to allow Ambrose Jonah and Lemmy Odoenenam to show the authorities or anyone at all where they claimed the clean in the Council.
The Executive Mayor however, appealed for calm.
