Aguocha Deepens Grassroots Consultations, Meets LP Ward Chairmen in Ikwuano

Abia State| September 9, 2026 —

The Member representing Ikwuano, Umuahia North and Umuahia South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Obi Aguocha, has continued his grassroots consultations with Labour Party ward chairmen across the three Local Government Areas that make up the constituency, as part of efforts to strengthen the party's structures and promote greater unity ahead of the forthcoming elections.

Aguocha, who was accompanied by the Director General of the Ministry of Finance Incorporated, MOFI, Abia State, Hon. Osinachi Hycinth Nwaka, held a strategic engagement with Labour Party ward chairmen from across Ikwuano Local Government Area at the residence of Comrade Lucky Nkemka in Okwe Community.

The meeting provided an avenue for extensive discussions on the state of the Labour Party at the grassroots, the need to consolidate ward structures and the importance of maintaining effective communication between party leaders and members.

The consultation also focused on reconciliation, internal cohesion, discipline and collective responsibility, with participants examining practical ways of building a stronger and more coordinated political structure capable of responding effectively to the aspirations of party members and constituents.

Addressing the ward chairmen, Aguocha emphasised that meaningful political representation must remain firmly connected to the people, stressing that the responsibility of an elected representative extends beyond legislative activities in Abuja.

The federal lawmaker noted that his ongoing engagement with grassroots party leaders was informed by the conviction that leaders must consistently listen to the concerns of the people, understand the realities confronting their communities and work collectively to ensure that the benefits of governance and representation reach the grassroots.

Aguocha also highlighted some of his legislative interventions and constituency-focused initiatives aimed at improving development and expanding opportunities for constituents across Ikwuano and the wider federal constituency. He maintained that his approach to representation places considerable emphasis on human capital development, community engagement and initiatives capable of producing sustainable benefits for the people.

He further urged Labour Party leaders and members to prioritise unity, cooperation and mutual respect, noting that the strength of any political organisation is determined by the effectiveness of its grassroots structure.

“A strong political organisation begins from the ward. This is why we must continue to listen to one another, consult widely and resolve our differences through dialogue. Our collective interest must always be greater than our individual interests, because when the party is strong and united, the people are better positioned to benefit from effective representation,” Aguocha said.

He added that his consultations were not merely political engagements but part of a deliberate effort to rebuild confidence, deepen internal communication and create a more cohesive political family ahead of the elections.

“My commitment is to remain accessible to our people and to continue to engage with our leaders and members at the grassroots. Representation is not only about what happens in Abuja; it is also about coming home, listening to our people and ensuring that their concerns are properly understood and addressed. We must work together in unity, discipline and mutual respect to move our constituency and our party forward,” he stated.

Also speaking, Hon. Osinachi Hycinth Nwaka called on the ward chairmen to remain steadfast in their commitment to the ideals of the Labour Party, stressing that a united and disciplined grassroots structure was essential to the party's success.

Nwaka urged the party leaders to place the collective interest above personal differences and strengthen cooperation among themselves, particularly in advancing the developmental vision of the Abia State Government under the leadership of Gov Alex Chioma Otti.

The engagement further provided an opportunity for the ward chairmen to share their perspectives on developments within the party and articulate issues affecting members and the grassroots. The discussions underscored the importance of continuous consultation as a means of strengthening trust between political leadership and party structures.

The meeting ended on a positive note, with participants expressing renewed commitment to dialogue, reconciliation, cooperation and the consolidation of Labour Party structures across Ikwuano.

The consultation is expected to continue across the other Local Government Areas within the federal constituency as Aguocha sustains efforts to deepen grassroots engagement and foster a more united and coordinated political structure ahead of the forthcoming elections.
