Ohuhu Traditional Rulers Confer “Oke Nwanne Ka Nwanne” Title on Aguocha, Back His Leadership and Service to Constituents

ABIA| September 6, 2026 —

The Ohuhu Council of Traditional Rulers has honoured the member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North and South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Obi Aguocha, with the prestigious traditional title, “Oke Nwanne Ka Nwanne,” meaning “a brother that is more than a brother.”

The traditional rulers, while conferring the honour on the federal lawmaker, described Aguocha as a dependable son of Ohuhu who had demonstrated compassion, commitment and genuine concern for the welfare and development of his constituents.

According to the monarchs, Aguocha’s contributions to education, community development and the pursuit of justice for marginalised people had distinguished him as a representative whose understanding of leadership goes beyond occupying political office.

They noted that his willingness to serve, make sacrifices and stand up for the interests of his people had earned him the confidence and respect of the traditional institution.

Responding to the honour, Aguocha said the title carried a profound meaning, particularly because of its connection to the Igbo philosophy, “Onyeaghala Nwanne Ya,” which translates to “No one should abandon his brother.”

The lawmaker explained that the philosophy emphasises the responsibility of every individual to remain his brother’s keeper, particularly in difficult moments. He said the principle had remained central to both his personal convictions and approach to public service.

Aguocha also referenced his continued advocacy on issues concerning Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, stressing that he would remain committed to pursuing what he considers justice and a fair resolution. He said the traditional title was not merely an honour but also a reminder of his responsibility to stand with his people whenever their interests and wellbeing were at stake.

The federal lawmaker further pledged to sustain his representation of the constituency and continue advocating policies and initiatives capable of improving the welfare and future prospects of his constituents and the wider Igbo community.

In a political dimension to the gathering, Aguocha declared that the people of Ohuhu would support and re-elect Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, in the 2027 governorship election, expressing confidence in the governor’s leadership and development agenda.

He urged the people to continue supporting programmes and initiatives aimed at transforming Abia State, while assuring that his relationship with the traditional institution would continue to be strengthened through service, cooperation and mutual respect.
