The Member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North and South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Obi Aguocha, has called on Nigerians to uphold unity, peace, patriotism and collective responsibility as the nation marks its Independence Day anniversary.
Aguocha, in a goodwill message to his constituents and Nigerians, described the independence anniversary as an important occasion for citizens to reflect on the nation's journey, honour the sacrifices of those who contributed to Nigeria's emergence as an independent nation, and renew their commitment to building a more peaceful, prosperous and inclusive country.
The federal lawmaker noted that Nigeria's diversity remains one of its greatest assets, stressing that citizens must learn to appreciate their differences while pursuing common national interests. He urged Nigerians to reject ethnic, religious and political divisions that could undermine national cohesion and instead promote tolerance, mutual respect and peaceful coexistence.
According to Aguocha, sustainable development cannot thrive in an atmosphere of conflict and instability, making peace a shared responsibility among citizens and leaders. He encouraged Nigerians to embrace dialogue, constitutional means and constructive engagement in resolving disagreements, while urging political and community leaders to always place the interests of the people above personal considerations.
The lawmaker also emphasised the importance of responsible citizenship in the task of nation building. He urged citizens to obey the laws of the land, protect public infrastructure, support community development initiatives and contribute positively to society, noting that the responsibility for building a better Nigeria rests not only with government but with every citizen.
Aguocha particularly charged Nigerian youths to recognise their strategic role in shaping the nation's future. He called for greater investment in education, skills acquisition, entrepreneurship and human capital development, stressing that empowering young people remains essential to unlocking Nigeria's enormous potential.
The federal lawmaker said effective representation must go beyond political participation to include initiatives that improve the lives of constituents and strengthen institutions. He reaffirmed his commitment to pursuing legislation and programmes that promote education, healthcare, infrastructure, economic empowerment and sustainable development within Ikwuano/Umuahia North and South Federal Constituency.
Aguocha further called on Nigerians to remain hopeful despite the challenges facing the country, stressing that national development is a gradual process requiring perseverance, sacrifice and collective commitment. He urged citizens to continue supporting efforts aimed at strengthening democratic institutions and creating opportunities for present and future generations.
He said the Independence Day celebration should therefore serve as a moment of renewed patriotism and determination, encouraging Nigerians to look beyond their individual and sectional interests and work collectively towards a nation characterised by justice, peace, equality and shared prosperity.
While congratulating Nigerians on the anniversary, Aguocha expressed confidence in the nation's capacity to overcome its challenges and fulfil its enormous potential. He urged his constituents and Nigerians at large to remain united, peaceful and committed to the ideals of a better Nigeria.
He wished Nigerians a peaceful and memorable Independence Day celebration, reiterating that the strength of the nation lies in the collective efforts of its people and their unwavering commitment to building a stronger Nigeria for generations to come.
