Umuahia, Abia State| April 22, 2026 —
The Member representing Umuahia North State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Barr. Anderson Kelechi Akaliro, has commended the Governor of Abia State, Dr Alex Chioma Otti, for what he described as a strategic and forward-thinking partnership with the Federal Government that has culminated in the commencement of a 1,200-unit housing project in Umuahia.
Akaliro gave the commendation following the official ground-breaking ceremony of the Federal Housing Authority Renewed Hope Housing Project held along the Ubani–Uzuakoli Road in Umuahia North Local Government Area. The project, a collaboration between the Federal Government through the Federal Housing Authority and the Abia State Government, is aimed at expanding access to affordable housing and improving the living conditions of residents across the state.
Describing the initiative as a landmark development, Akaliro noted that the project represents a significant milestone in addressing the housing deficit in Abia State while also stimulating economic activities within the construction and real estate sectors. He emphasized that the decision of the state government to partner with the Federal Government underscores a pragmatic approach to governance that prioritizes results over political considerations.
According to him, Gov Otti’s willingness to engage constructively with the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu demonstrates a commitment to inclusive development and effective intergovernmental collaboration. He stressed that such synergy is essential for unlocking large-scale infrastructure projects capable of transforming communities and enhancing citizens’ welfare.
Akaliro further observed that Abia’s emergence as the first state in the South East, and among the first five states nationwide, to key into the Renewed Hope Housing Programme reflects the proactive leadership style of Gov Otti. He added that the administration’s prompt provision of land and payment of compensation to indigenous landowners exemplify transparency and respect for due process.
“The commencement of this housing project is not only timely but also strategic,” Akaliro stated.
“It speaks volumes about a government that understands the pressing needs of its people and is deliberate in pursuing solutions through collaboration. Gov Alex Otti has once again demonstrated that governance is about service delivery, not rhetoric.”
He also highlighted the broader socio-economic implications of the project, noting that beyond providing shelter, the development would create employment opportunities for artisans, engineers, and other professionals, while boosting ancillary businesses within the host communities.
The lawmaker commended the leadership of the Federal Housing Authority for its commitment to the initiative and acknowledged the role of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in championing the Renewed Hope Housing Programme across the country. He expressed optimism that the project would be executed to high standards and delivered within a reasonable timeframe.
Akaliro concluded by reaffirming his support for policies and programmes that advance the welfare of the people of Umuahia North and Abia State at large, assuring constituents that the State Assembly would continue to provide the necessary legislative backing to initiatives that promote sustainable development and improved quality of life.
