Umuahia North, Abia State| April 22, 2026 —
The Member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North and South Federal Constituency, Rt Hon Obi Aguocha, has described the ongoing housing initiative in Umuahia as a transformative milestone, commending the Governor of Abia State, Dr Alex Chioma Otti, for forging a strategic partnership with the Federal Government to deliver affordable housing to the people.
Aguocha made this known during the ground-breaking ceremony of the 1,200-unit Federal Housing Authority Renewed Hope Housing Project held along the Ubani–Uzuakoli Road in Umuahia North Local Government Area. The project is a joint effort between the Federal Government, through the Federal Housing Authority, and the Abia State Government, aimed at bridging the housing deficit and improving living standards.
In his goodwill message, the federal lawmaker expressed deep appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Gov. Otti for their roles in actualizing the long-awaited project, noting that it marks the end of nearly two decades of stalled efforts.
“This project is not just another government initiative; it is a long-overdue intervention that has finally come to fruition after 18 years of back and forth,” Aguocha stated.
“I want to sincerely thank Mr. President and our dear Governor for demonstrating the political will and administrative clarity required to bring this vision to life.”
He described the housing scheme as a laudable and people-centered development, emphasizing that access to decent shelter remains a critical component of social stability and economic growth. According to him, the collaboration between both tiers of government reflects a new governance culture anchored on partnership, efficiency, and results.
“What we are witnessing here today is a clear example of visionary leadership,” Aguocha added.
“Gov. Alex Otti has shown that meaningful development can be achieved when leaders set aside distractions and focus on what truly matters, which is the welfare of the people. This partnership with the Federal Government is a model that should be emulated across the country.”
The lawmaker further noted that the project would not only provide affordable housing for residents but also stimulate economic activities through job creation and increased demand for local materials and services. He stressed that such large-scale infrastructure initiatives have a ripple effect that benefits both urban and rural communities.
Aguocha also commended the Federal Housing Authority for its commitment to the Renewed Hope Housing Programme, stating that its decision to commence the project in Abia underscores the growing confidence in the state’s leadership and development agenda.
“This is a proud moment for Abia State,” he said. “Being among the first states to key into this programme speaks volumes about the proactive and business-minded approach of the present administration. It tells investors and development partners that Abia is open, ready, and serious about progress.”
He reiterated his commitment to supporting policies and programmes that uplift the living standards of his constituents, assuring that his office would continue to collaborate with the executive arm to deliver impactful projects.
The ground-breaking ceremony attracted top government officials, traditional rulers, and community leaders, all of whom lauded the initiative as a major step toward addressing the housing needs of Abians while positioning the state for sustainable urban development.
