Obi Aguocha Welcomes Rt. Hon. Oluchi Ibeji to Labour Party, Hails Otti’s Transformative Leadership

Abia State| March 3, 2026 —

The Member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North and Umuahia South Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Rt Hon Obi Aguocha, has formally welcomed Rt. Hon. Oluchi Ibeji, a former member who once represented the same federal constituency, into the Labour Party.
The development marks another significant political shift within the constituency and further consolidates the party’s growing influence in Abia State.

In a statement made available to National Sunrise News, Aguocha described Ibeji’s decision to join the Labour Party as a bold and commendable step driven by conviction and a shared commitment to progressive governance.

Hon Obi Aguocha stated that the move is a great testament to the transformative leadership being witnessed in Abia State under the administration of Dr Alex Chioma Otti. He noted that the remarkable reforms and infrastructural renewal championed by Gov Otti have restored public confidence in governance and inspired many leaders across political divides to align with the Labour Party’s vision.

According to Aguocha, the wave of defections into the Labour Party reflects the growing trust in purposeful leadership both at the state and federal levels. He described Ibeji’s entrance into the party as an affirmation of the credible representation being provided to the people of Ikwuano, Umuahia North and Umuahia South at the National Assembly.

The lawmaker also highlighted that Rt. Hon. Ibeji becomes the second former representative of the constituency to join the Labour Party, following the earlier defection of Rt. Hon. Acho Obioma. He emphasized that this rare political development underscores a unifying consensus among past and present leaders of the constituency on the need to support a people-centered governance agenda.

Aguocha commended the strides made by the Labour Party administration in Abia State and
reaffirmed his commitment to continue working collaboratively with the party leaders to advance development across the constituency, thereby strengthening the party’s structure and outreach.

This development is seen as a major boost for the Labour Party in the constituency, noting that the alignment of former lawmakers under one political platform signals stability and strategic consolidation ahead of future political engagements. With the inclusion of Rt. Hon. Ibeji, the party’s grassroots mobilization and policy advocacy efforts in Ikwuano, Umuahia North and Umuahia South Federal Constituency are set to gain renewed momentum.
