Armed Forces Remembrance: Onyekwere Akym Salutes Bravery of Nigerian Soldiers, Urges Continued Patriotism

January 15, 2026 —

As Nigeria marks this year’s Armed Forces Remembrance Day, founder of the OAU foundation and former Abia State governorship candidate, Hon Onyekwere Akym Uche (OAU), has paid glowing tribute to the courage and selflessness of officers and men of the Nigerian Armed Forces, describing them as enduring symbols of patriotism and national sacrifice.

Speaking, OAU said the occasion serves as a powerful reminder of the price paid to preserve Nigeria’s unity and security. According to him, the nation owes an immeasurable debt of gratitude to fallen soldiers who laid down their lives in the line of duty.

Armed Forces Remembrance Day is a solemn moment for reflection,” he said. “It is a day we pause to honour brave men and women who chose service above self and paid the ultimate price so that Nigeria could stand united.”

Akym stressed that beyond ceremonial observances, the day should inspire deeper appreciation for the sacrifices of military personnel who continue to confront security challenges across the country.

Our soldiers operate under extremely difficult and dangerous conditions,” he noted. “Their bravery, discipline, and commitment to duty deserve not only our respect but also sustained institutional and moral support.”

He further highlighted the role of the military in safeguarding democracy and maintaining national stability, noting that their sacrifices often go unnoticed by the general public.

From defending our territorial integrity to maintaining internal peace, the Nigerian Armed Forces have remained steadfast,” OAU said. “Their resilience in the face of adversity is a testament to their love for the nation.”

Calling on Nigerians to demonstrate renewed patriotism, Hon Akym urged citizens to support initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of serving personnel and veterans.

True patriotism is shown through actions,” he stated. “Supporting the welfare of our soldiers and their families is one meaningful way of honouring the memory of our fallen heroes.”

Onyekwere Akym Uche also emphasized the importance of national unity as a tribute to the sacrifices of the armed forces.

The blood of our fallen heroes reminds us that Nigeria is bigger than our differences,” he said. “We honour them best when we uphold unity, peace, and mutual respect as a people.”

Armed Forces Remembrance Day is observed annually to commemorate members of the Nigerian Armed Forces who lost their lives in active service.
