The Council of Village Heads of Obohia Okike in Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State has applauded the Executive Mayor of Ikwuano, Anthony .N. Nwaubani, PhD, FCA, FCIB, for his administration's developmental strides, describing the ongoing transformation across the council area as commendable.
The traditional leaders made the commendation during a courtesy visit to the Mayor at his residence in Ekpiri Osoaji on Friday, November 6, 2026, where they expressed satisfaction with the visible infrastructural improvements across various communities, particularly the installation of solar-powered street lights.
The delegation, led by the Councillor representing Oloko Ward 2, Hon. Ogbonna David Obinna, comprised the Prime Minister of Obohia Community, Chief Obinna Onuoha; Comr. Obasi Chris; Chief Alozie Josiah; Chief Amos Onyekwere; Chief Emeka Imoh; and Mr. Mark Eleribe.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, the Prime Minister of Obohia Community, Chief Obinna Onuoha, described the developmental changes taking place in Ikwuano as encouraging, noting that the council area had witnessed a remarkable facelift under the present administration.
He particularly commended the Mayor's investment in solar-powered street lighting, which he said had improved the appearance of communities and contributed to a more secure environment. While appreciating the Mayor for his efforts, he appealed for the extension of the initiative to Obohia Okike, stressing the community's desire to benefit from the ongoing infrastructural interventions.
"We have seen what you are doing across Ikwuano. Ikwuano now wears a new look. We are here to thank you and to ask that you remember Obohia, particularly with street lights," he said.
In response, Dr. Nwaubani expressed appreciation to the delegation for the visit, their recognition of his administration's efforts and their continued support. He reaffirmed his commitment to inclusive governance, sustained community engagement and the equitable distribution of development projects across Ikwuano.
The Mayor noted that Obohia holds a special place in his heart, particularly because of its proximity to Ekpiri, his hometown, assuring the delegation that their request, alongside other development concerns raised, would receive the necessary attention.
Nwaubani also highlighted the agricultural development agenda of the Abia State Government under Governor Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, observing that agriculture has become a major priority in the state's development strategy. He maintained that Ikwuano was making steady progress towards aligning with the Governor's vision of repositioning agriculture as a driver of economic growth, food security and employment generation.
Furthermore, the Mayor stressed the importance of extending solar-powered security lighting to strategic roads linking neighbouring communities, explaining that improved illumination would strengthen security vigilance, discourage criminal activities and enhance the safety of residents, particularly at night.
He assured the delegation that his administration would continue to identify and respond to the developmental needs of communities, irrespective of their size or location, in pursuit of balanced and sustainable growth across the local government area.
The visit highlights the growing recognition of the Nwaubani-led administration's development initiatives and reinforces the importance of collaboration between traditional institutions, elected representatives and the local government in advancing grassroots development.
