The Executive Mayor of Ikwuano Local Government council, Hon. Dr. Anthony Nzeribe Nwaubani, has reaffirmed his administration’s determination to remain focused on delivering meaningful development to the people, insisting that distractions and peripheral controversies will not derail the council’s development agenda.

Nwaubani stated this while interacting with staff of the Ikwuano Local Government Council on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, during a meeting that provided an opportunity to review developments within the council, discuss staff welfare and update employees on ongoing projects.

The Mayor, who appreciated the council workforce for its cooperation and support, emphasised that the progress being recorded in Ikwuano was a product of collective effort, urging the staff to remain committed to their responsibilities and contribute meaningfully to the administration’s development drive.

According to him, his administration remains focused on issues that directly affect the lives of the people, including infrastructure, agriculture, staff welfare and the creation of a more efficient administrative structure.

He stressed that the responsibility of governance required discipline, resilience and the ability to remain focused on clearly defined objectives despite distractions.

Nwaubani’s position was underscored by his administration’s ongoing investment in the council’s administrative infrastructure, particularly the construction of a new two-storey administrative complex at the Ikwuano Local Government headquarters.

The project, which is expected to be completed in November 2026, is designed to address longstanding challenges associated with inadequate office accommodation and provide a more conducive environment for council employees to discharge their duties.

The modern administrative block is also being developed with consideration for Persons With Disabilities, PWDs, making accessibility an important component of the facility’s design.

The Mayor described the project as a significant intervention that would substantially improve the working environment and strengthen administrative efficiency within the council.

When completed, the facility is expected to accommodate more council operations and reduce the pressure created by inadequate office spaces, while providing workers with a more organised and functional environment.

The development of the administrative complex forms part of what the administration considers a broader effort to strengthen the institutional capacity of the Local Government and create an environment where public servants can work effectively.

Speaking on staff welfare, Nwaubani also informed the workers that the issue concerning delayed salary payments for some employees whose salary accounts were domiciled with Mayfresh Microfinance Bank had been resolved.

The affected workers subsequently confirmed that they had received their salaries, bringing relief to those who had experienced the delay.

The development, according to the administration, demonstrates its responsiveness to issues affecting the welfare and morale of council employees.

Nwaubani further acknowledged the commitment of the workforce to maintaining a clean and orderly council environment. He commended the staff for voluntarily participating in sanitation activities and encouraged them to sustain the culture of cleanliness.

Earlier, the Head of Service, Mrs. Comfort Onyeabor, had commended the Mayor for making time to regularly interact with council workers and showing genuine interest in issues concerning their welfare.

She urged staff to uphold discipline, professionalism and diligence in the discharge of their responsibilities, stressing that an efficient Local Government system requires a workforce committed to high standards of public service.

The meeting also touched on the council’s agricultural initiatives, particularly efforts to strengthen the commercialisation of its agricultural produce.

The Head of Service disclosed that the State’s Joint Agricultural Intervention Committee for Ikwuano requires two qualified persons from the council workforce to handle the marketing of agricultural products, particularly the council’s pepper produce.

Interested employees were invited to apply, creating an avenue for council staff to participate in the economic value chain associated with the administration’s agricultural initiatives.

For Nwaubani, the various interventions reflect a deliberate attempt to build an administration anchored on tangible development, institutional strengthening and improved service delivery.

Rather than allowing peripheral issues to divert attention from governance, the Mayor maintained that his administration would continue to concentrate on projects and policies capable of producing lasting benefits for the people of Ikwuano.

He called on the staff to remain united and focused, noting that the success of the Local Government could only be achieved through a shared commitment to duty and a collective determination to move Ikwuano forward.

The Mayor appealed for calm and continued cooperation from the workforce, assuring that his administration would remain committed to improving the council’s infrastructure, strengthening staff welfare and creating a more effective and responsive Local Government administration.

With the new administrative complex approaching its projected November completion date, alongside ongoing agricultural and workplace initiatives, the Nwaubani administration appears intent on placing institutional development and service delivery at the centre of its governance agenda in Ikwuano.
