The people of Ehume in Omaegwu Ward, Umuahia South Local Government Area of Abia State, have expressed profound appreciation to the Executive Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, and the Member representing Umuahia South State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Emeka Tommy Obioma, for their developmental interventions and commitment to improving the lives of residents across the community.
The commendation was made during an interactive engagement between the people of Ehume and Hon. Emeka Obioma, where constituents had the opportunity to engage their representative directly and discuss issues affecting the community.
The gathering provided a platform for the people to openly express their concerns, aspirations and expectations, while also acknowledging the positive impact of government interventions and constituency-focused initiatives in the area. The people of Ehume community particularly appreciated the attention being given to grassroots development and the efforts of both the state government and their elected representative to respond to the needs of the people.
While commending Gov Otti for what they described as impactful interventions across Abia State, the people equally praised Hon. Obioma for maintaining a close relationship with his constituents and creating avenues for direct interaction with the people he represents.
The people, however, used the opportunity to call for additional interventions that would further enhance their livelihoods and improve infrastructure and social amenities in the community. Their requests reflected the growing expectations of constituents who desire sustained government presence and more development projects at the grassroots.
Responding to the concerns raised, Hon. Emeka Obioma assured the people that their views, requests and aspirations would receive the necessary attention. He stressed that effective representation must be rooted in constant engagement with the people and a clear understanding of the challenges confronting them.
According to Obioma, “My responsibility is not just to sit in the Assembly and make laws; it is also to remain connected to the people and understand what they are going through. Every engagement with our communities gives me a clearer picture of where attention is needed, and I will continue to listen, engage and do my best to ensure that the needs of our people are properly represented.”
He further reaffirmed his commitment to working with the state government to attract more development to Umuahia South, noting that the progress already recorded should serve as a foundation for greater interventions.
“We appreciate the efforts of His Excellency, Gov. Alex Otti, in bringing development closer to our people, and we will continue to support initiatives that improve the quality of life in our communities. What we have achieved so far is not the end; there is still more work to be done, and I will continue to advocate for Ehume and every other community in Umuahia South,” he said.
The lawmaker noted that the interactive engagement was particularly important because it allowed his constituents to speak freely about issues that directly affect them, while also enabling him to receive first-hand feedback on the impact of existing interventions.
He maintained that responsive representation requires more than periodic political engagements, stressing that elected representatives must consistently return to their communities, listen to their constituents and translate their concerns into actionable interventions.
The people of Ehume expressed optimism that the meeting would lead to further attention to their priority needs, describing continued collaboration between the government, elected representatives and the communities as essential to achieving sustainable development.
In conclusion, the engagement with the Lawmaker reinforced the importance of people-centred leadership, grassroots consultation and continuous communication between elected officials and their constituents, with both sides expressing commitment to working together towards the continued development of Ehume and the wider Umuahia South constituency.
