The Ohuhu Traditional Prime Ministers have unanimously endorsed the Member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North and Umuahia South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Obi Aguocha, for a second term in the National Assembly, citing his legislative engagements, constituency interventions and commitment to development as key considerations behind their decision.

The endorsement followed a consultative meeting between the traditional leaders and Aguocha, held at the residence of House of Chief Dr. Barr. Sunny Ibeneme, TPM, where the Traditional Prime Ministers undertook extensive deliberations on the state of representation, development priorities, legislative continuity and the political interests of Ohuhu and the wider federal constituency.

According to a communiqué issued at the conclusion of the meeting, the engagement was conducted in an atmosphere of brotherhood, frank discussion and mutual respect. The meeting provided the traditional leaders an opportunity to assess Aguocha's stewardship since his emergence as the federal lawmaker in 2023, with particular attention to his legislative activities, constituency engagements and interventions across the federal constituency.

The Traditional Prime Ministers said their decision followed a comprehensive assessment of Aguocha's legislative journey in the 10th National Assembly, including his achievements, representation and constituency initiatives, as well as the challenges encountered during his first term. They expressed satisfaction with his performance and consequently arrived at a unanimous position to support his re-election in 2027.

The traditional leaders anchored their position on what they described as the principles of merit, equity and legislative continuity. They noted that retaining an experienced representative would provide an opportunity to consolidate ongoing initiatives, strengthen institutional relationships and sustain efforts aimed at attracting greater federal attention and developmental opportunities to Ohuhu and the entire Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South Federal Constituency.

The communiqué, however, made it clear that the endorsement comes with heightened expectations and a greater responsibility for the lawmaker. The Traditional Prime Ministers charged Aguocha to deepen grassroots consultation and strengthen his engagement with traditional institutions and community stakeholders. They also urged him to intensify efforts in critical areas including road infrastructure and erosion control, healthcare, education, youth development and employment, electricity, human capital development and access to federal programmes and interventions.

The leaders further stressed the importance of peace, unity and dignity within Ohuhu as the 2027 political season gathers momentum. While affirming their collective position in support of Aguocha's second-term bid, they acknowledged the democratic right of individuals to hold divergent political views and called for issue-based, respectful and peaceful political engagement devoid of bitterness, insults and unnecessary division.

The Traditional Prime Ministers subsequently resolved to work collectively towards the actualisation of Aguocha's re-election bid in 2027, while maintaining constructive engagement with him on the developmental aspirations and legitimate expectations of the people. They emphasised that their overriding consideration remained the peace, unity, equity and development of Ohuhu, as well as the broader interest of the entire federal constituency.

The communiqué was issued on September 25, 2026, and signed on behalf of the Ohuhu Traditional Prime Ministers by Chief Hon. Clement Onyeoziri, TPM, Protem Chairman, and RHC Aguikwu Emma Ifeanyi, TPM, Protem Secretary.
