Ikwuano, Abia State| September 17, 2026 —
The Executive Mayor of Ikwuano Local Government Council, Hon. Dr. Anthony Nzeribe Nwaubani, Ph.D, FCA, FCIB, has hosted the Labour Party Senatorial Candidate for Abia Central, Senator Darlington Nwokocha (DARLOO), during a day-long series of stakeholder engagements in Ikwuano.
The engagements, held on Monday, September 16, 2026, formed part of Senator Nwokocha’s pre-consultation tour across the Abia Central Senatorial District ahead of the forthcoming elections, with emphasis on consultation, party cohesion and sustained engagement with grassroots stakeholders.
The programme commenced at the Labour Party State Secretariat before the delegation proceeded to the Ikwuano Local Government Headquarters. Senator Nwokocha was accompanied by Mayor Nwaubani and the Mayors of the other five local government areas that make up the Abia Central Senatorial District.
At the Ikwuano Local Government Headquarters, the delegation held a meeting with the Councils of Ndi Eze from Ikwuano, Umuahia North and Umuahia South, providing an avenue for interaction with traditional institution representatives and other stakeholders on matters concerning the political and developmental interests of the district.
Welcoming Senator Nwokocha and members of the delegation, Mayor Nwaubani expressed appreciation for the visit and acknowledged the contributions of the Senator and other Labour Party stakeholders to the development of Abia State.
The Mayor used the occasion to demonstrate the importance of unity, discipline and constructive engagement within the Labour Party, urging members and supporters to place the collective interest of the party and the people above individual considerations.
He cautioned party faithful against statements and actions capable of creating unnecessary divisions or undermining the credibility of the party and its candidates, stressing that a cohesive political structure remained essential to effective grassroots mobilisation and sustainable political engagement.
According to him, the strength of the Labour Party is significantly dependent on the cooperation and mutual understanding of its members, particularly at the grassroots, where the party's programmes, policies and candidates are directly presented to the electorate.
Mayor Nwaubani therefore called on party leaders, stakeholders and support groups to sustain open channels of communication and work collaboratively in advancing the interests of the party and the people of Abia Central.
From the council headquarters, the delegation proceeded to the Labour Party Local Government Secretariat in Ikwuano, where Senator Nwokocha met with the LGA party executives.
The meeting provided an opportunity for the Senator to interact directly with party leaders and executives, exchange views on the forthcoming elections and discuss issues relating to party organisation, stakeholder participation and the continued development of Abia State.
The consultation also showed the importance of maintaining a strong relationship between the party's political leadership and its grassroots structures, particularly as preparations intensify for the elections.
The delegation subsequently met with other Labour Party stakeholders and heads of support groups within Ikwuano, including members of the Echezona Street Vanguard for Dr. Alex Otti.
Speaking during the engagements, Senator Nwokeocha explained that the tour was primarily aimed at consulting critical stakeholders, listening to party members and strengthening communication across the six local government areas that constitute Abia Central Senatorial District.
He said the consultations were necessary to ensure that the views and concerns of stakeholders at the grassroots remained part of the political conversation, while also providing an avenue to consolidate the relationship between elected representatives, party structures and support groups.
Senator Nwokeocha also highlighted projects and interventions recorded during his tenure in the Senate, citing initiatives in healthcare, infrastructure development and human empowerment across the six local government areas of Abia Central.
He used the opportunity to interface with party faithful on the need for continued cooperation and effective grassroots participation, while urging eligible voters to support Labour Party candidates at the various levels of the forthcoming elections.
The Senator further encouraged party members to support the position of the Executive Governor on the return of Labour Party candidates for a second term, pointing to continuity and administrative convenience as considerations in sustaining ongoing programmes and policies.
The series of meetings ended with further engagements with various support groups, bringing together party executives, traditional stakeholders, political leaders and grassroots supporters in an atmosphere centred on consultation and interaction.
