The Executive Mayor of Ikwuano Local Government Area in Abia State, Hon. Anthony Nzeribe Nwaubani, Ph.D, FCA, FCIB, and Mayoress Princess Nnenna Florence Nwaubani, has joined family members, friends, community leaders and well-wishers to celebrate the 73rd anniversary of Sir Moses Chikezie Nwosu, Director-General of the Umunna Development and Empowerment Foundation, describing him as a humble and selfless humanitarian whose life has been defined by service, compassion and uncommon commitment to community development.
The anniversary celebration, which was held on Friday, September 18, 2026, at Mater Dei Cathedral, Azikiwe Road, Umuahia, brought together prominent personalities and members of the community to honour the celebrant for his longstanding contributions to humanitarian development and the wellbeing of individuals and communities across Abia State.
Sir Chikezie Nwosu, through the Umunna Development and Empowerment Foundation, has been associated with various humanitarian and community development interventions across the state, with Ikwuano Local Government Area among the communities that have benefited significantly from the foundation's activities.
The celebration therefore provided an opportunity for stakeholders to acknowledge not only his attainment of 73 years, but also the enduring impact of his humanitarian engagements and his commitment to improving the quality of life of people, particularly through interventions in healthcare, education, road infrastructure and the distribution of palliatives and other forms of assistance.
Among the distinguished personalities at the occasion was Hon Dr Nwaubani, who paid tribute to the celebrant's character, resilience and willingness to continue serving communities despite the challenges that sometimes accompany humanitarian interventions.
Speaking during the ceremony, Nwaubani said Sir Chikezie Nwosu had demonstrated remarkable patience and tolerance in his dealings with communities and beneficiaries, noting that his disposition to service had often compelled him to persevere even in difficult circumstances.
“There is a lot to say about Sir Chikezie Nwosu, but I would not want to make my speech lengthy. He is a man with uncommon patience and tolerance when it comes to helping people. I have worked with him and I must confess that there are things he has tolerated that I would not go close to. We have called on the communities to open the road for them, for their bulldozers and every equipment they spent millions to bring, that people came to attack. We have gone to places where you would expect a simple thank you from the community, but instead they tell you to get out of our community. And I say to him, ‘Uncle Mo, this is enough now, why not check out?’ He will simply laugh and say no,” Nwaubani said.
The Ikwuano Mayor further described the celebrant as a man of remarkable humility whose humanitarian activities have touched people across different social strata, stressing that his influence extends from the grassroots to the academic community.
“I truly don't know how to describe this man, but one thing is certain, when someone is good, and when we say that man is good, that looks abstract. It is only when we begin to put it in perspective that we can now agree that indeed this man is good. Sir Moses is humble to the core. He is of the top class, but he doesn't have class. The little children with running noses are friends of his. He is a household name in the slums. When it comes to the distribution of palliatives, Uncle Mo is a household name. When it comes to quality healthcare, Uncle Mo is a household name. Road construction, he is there. Schools and so on, he is a household name. I didn't even know that in academia he is also a giant, which I found out just recently. He is a man of too many parts, a man who wears so many hats. He is a very good man, and today we are celebrating a fulfilled and peaceful life, as well as a life of service and uncommon impact in society,” Nwaubani stated.
Nwaubani prayed for God's continued guidance, preservation and elevation for the celebrant, while expressing his support for Sir Chikezie Nwosu's intellectual contribution to society.
The Mayor also demonstrated his support for the celebrant's academic work by indicating his willingness to obtain a copy of the book presented at the ceremony, with a token of support for the scholarly endeavour.
A major highlight of the celebration was the public presentation of Sir Chikezie Nwosu's book, The Issues and Themes in the Organization of Information Resources, which added an intellectual dimension to the birthday celebration and further showcased the celebrant's interests beyond humanitarian and community development.
The book unveiling and presentation attracted the attention of guests and served as a significant feature of the occasion, reflecting the celebrant's engagement with scholarship and the organization of information resources.
The occasion was chaired by Prof. Monday C. Onukawa, while a congratulatory address was presented by Mr. Humphrey Walter, who represented Mazi Iyke Edwin Anyadigibe, Founder and Chairman of the Umunna Development and Empowerment Foundation.
Women's groups from Umudike and Oboro were also present at the ceremony. The Umudike women offered prayers for the celebrant and presented a token of ₦20,000 in support of him as he marked the milestone.
The presence of the women's groups and other community stakeholders further underscored the broad grassroots recognition of Sir Chikezie Nwosu's humanitarian activities and his relationship with communities across the state.
In his closing remarks, the celebrant addressed the gathering, expressing appreciation to his family, friends, colleagues, community leaders and other guests who joined him to mark the occasion.
The 73rd anniversary celebration served as both a birthday commemoration and a public acknowledgement of Sir Chikezie Nwosu's years of service, humanitarian intervention, community engagement and intellectual contribution, with guests celebrating a life that has continued to make an impact across different spheres of society.
