The Executive Mayor of Ikwuano Local Government Council, Hon. Anthony Nzeribe Nwaubani, Ph.D, FCA, FCIB, has pledged his support for the Echezona Street Vanguard and its advocacy for the preservation of developmental achievements as a means of promoting accountability, continuity and responsible governance.
Mayor Nwaubani made the commitment on Monday, September 14, 2026, when he received members of the Echezona Street Vanguard on a courtesy visit to his office at the Ikwuano Local Government Council headquarters.
Speaking on behalf of the State Chairman of the group, Hon. Ugochukwu Mmeregini expressed appreciation for the warm reception accorded the delegation by the Mayor. He said he was particularly delighted that Mayor Nwaubani was already familiar with the activities and ideals of the organisation, describing the visit as an opportunity to strengthen collaboration and deepen engagement with the council leadership.
Mmeregini commended the visible transformation taking place at the Ikwuano Local Government headquarters under Mayor Nwaubani, with particular reference to the nearly completed administrative block. He noted that the ongoing infrastructural improvements has significantly enhanced the appearance and functionality of the council premises, describing them as tangible evidence of purposeful leadership and a commitment to creating a more conducive environment for effective public administration.
The State representative also lauded the developmental strides of the Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, noting that the visible transformation across various sectors of the state has become a compelling testament to the administration's commitment to development. According to him, the achievements recorded by the Otti administration provide a strong campaign message and reinforce the importance of documenting and communicating positive governance outcomes to the public.
He explained that the Echezona Street Vanguard was founded on the principle that “achievements should not be forgotten,” stressing that societies and governments must preserve institutional memory by properly documenting developmental milestones. He said the organisation was committed to ensuring that meaningful achievements were not lost to time or overshadowed by political narratives, but were properly acknowledged as part of the history of governance and community development.
Mmeregini further informed the Mayor that the group would soon hold its formal inauguration and solicited his support towards ensuring the success of the event. He expressed confidence that the Mayor's involvement would further strengthen the organisation's activities and contribute to the realisation of its objectives.
Responding, Mayor Nwaubani thanked the delegation for the visit and expressed appreciation for the ideals underpinning the Echezona Street Vanguard. He commended the group's emphasis on preserving records of achievements and promoting continuity in governance, noting that documenting development is important for posterity and for enabling citizens to properly assess the impact of leadership over time.
The Mayor disclosed that the founder of the group, Dr. Christian Anokwuru, has been a close associate of his, adding that their shared commitment to service and development had provided a basis for their relationship. In his words, both of them “serve the same master,” a statement that highlighted his belief in a common purpose centred on service to the people.
Mayor Nwaubani subsequently pledged his full support to the Echezona Street Vanguard and its forthcoming inauguration. He affirmed his alignment with the organisation's commitment to preserving the records of achievements, promoting positive leadership narratives and encouraging continuity in development, stressing that the impact of government should be measured not only by projects initiated but also by the enduring value those projects create for the people.
The visit further displayed the growing engagement between stakeholders and the Ikwuano Local Government administration, particularly in the area of recognising and communicating developmental interventions. The administration's ongoing infrastructural improvements at the council headquarters, alongside its broader leadership initiatives, remain central to its efforts to reposition the local government and strengthen the delivery of public services.
