South African Anti-Migration Group Sets Fresh Deadline for Undocumented Foreigners

A South African anti-migration movement, March and March, has issued a fresh deadline for undocumented foreigners to leave the country, escalating its campaign against illegal immigration.

The group announced September 30, 2026, as the new deadline during a demonstration in Durban on Monday, where the Southern African Development Community summit was taking place.

During the protest, members of the movement marched through parts of Durban, seeking to draw the attention of regional leaders to their concerns over undocumented migration and what they described as the failure of authorities to adequately address the issue.

March and March also called on African governments whose citizens are residing in South Africa without valid immigration documents to take responsibility for their nationals and ensure that immigration laws are respected.

The latest ultimatum comes weeks after the group staged a nationwide mobilisation on June 30, during which it demanded stronger government action against undocumented immigration.

According to the movement, the September 30 deadline will be followed by another major demonstration intended to intensify pressure on the South African government to act on its demands.

The group also appealed to South Africans to assist law enforcement agencies by reporting individuals suspected of living in the country without valid immigration status.

The renewed campaign has heightened concerns surrounding migration and xenophobia in South Africa, where anti-immigrant movements have frequently called for stricter controls on undocumented migrants. Critics of such campaigns have, however, raised concerns about the potential for anti-migration rhetoric to fuel hostility against foreign nationals, including those who are legally resident in the country.

The development comes as regional leaders gather in Durban for the SADC summit, placing migration and cross-border movement among the issues receiving renewed public attention across Southern Africa.
