The Member representing Umuahia North (Ohuhu) State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Barr. Kelechi Anderson Akaliro, has reaffirmed his commitment to supporting women, religious institutions and community-oriented initiatives across the constituency, stressing the importance of faith, unity and selfless service in building a stronger society.
Akaliro stated this while serving as a keynote speaker at the 16th Annual Women Fellowship Conference of the Methodist Church of Nigeria, Umuahia East Diocese, held at the Methodist Church, Umuagu-Ohuhu. The five-day conference, which commenced on Wednesday, August 12, and ended on Sunday, August 16, 2026, brought together women from across the Diocese for spiritual fellowship, reflection, empowerment and community engagement.
Addressing the women during the conference, Akaliro commended the Methodist Women Fellowship for its sustained commitment to the growth of the church and its contributions to the wellbeing of families and communities. He encouraged the women to remain steadfast in their faith and continue to serve as positive influences within their homes, churches and communities.
The lawmaker emphasised that women occupy a strategic position in the development of society, noting that their influence extends beyond the family to education, community building, moral formation and social development. He therefore urged them to continue using their God-given capacities to promote peace, compassion, unity and responsible citizenship.
According to Akaliro, genuine community development requires the collective efforts of individuals and institutions that are committed to service rather than personal interests. He called on the women to remain united and supportive of initiatives that promote the welfare of the people, while encouraging them to continue praying for their families, communities and leaders.
As part of his participation in the conference, Akaliro also paid a goodwill visit to the Women Fellowship, where he presented gifts to the women as a gesture of appreciation and encouragement. The gesture was received as an expression of goodwill and recognition of the women’s contributions to the Methodist Church and the wider society.
The gifts also showed Akaliro’s appreciation for the role of women in sustaining religious institutions and nurturing values that contribute to peaceful and progressive communities. His interaction with the women provided an opportunity to strengthen the relationship between the lawmaker and faith-based groups within the Umuahia North constituency.
The 16th Annual Women Fellowship Conference offered participants an avenue for spiritual renewal, fellowship and the exchange of ideas on issues affecting families, the church and society. It also reinforced the importance of collective responsibility in promoting positive values and sustainable community development.
Akaliro’s participation further reflected his continued engagement with religious and community stakeholders within Ohuhu. Through his presence, goodwill message and support for the conference, the lawmaker reaffirmed the importance of collaboration between elected representatives, religious institutions and community groups in advancing grassroots development.
He expressed appreciation to the Methodist Church of Nigeria, Umuahia East Diocese, and the Women Fellowship for the opportunity to participate in the conference, while encouraging the women to remain steadfast in faith and dedicated to the ideals of love, unity, service and community development.
