The Mayor of Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State, Dr Anthony Nwaubani, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusive, people-oriented and equitable governance, assuring residents that his leadership will continue to promote unity, welfare and security across the local government.
Speaking to newsmen in Umuahia, Nwaubani stated that effective leadership must transcend ethnic, religious and sectional considerations, stressing that every resident of Ikwuano deserves to feel valued, protected and carried along in the administration of the local government. He maintained that the strength of Ikwuano lies in the diversity and shared aspirations of its people, noting that peaceful coexistence remains fundamental to sustainable development.
According to him, his administration is committed to creating an atmosphere in which residents can pursue their legitimate aspirations without fear, discrimination or marginalisation. He emphasised that governance should not be restricted to a particular group, but should be anchored on fairness, accountability and the collective interest of the people.
The Ikwuano Council Chairman further underscored the importance of unity in advancing the development agenda of the local government. He noted that no meaningful progress can be achieved in an atmosphere of division, urging residents to continue to embrace dialogue, mutual respect and cooperation irrespective of their backgrounds.
Nwaubani also reiterated his administration’s determination to prioritise the welfare and security of the people. He explained that a responsive local government must remain attentive to the needs of its citizens and continuously seek practical ways to improve their quality of life. He assured residents that their concerns would continue to receive due attention within the limits of available resources.
On security, the Mayor stressed that peace and safety are indispensable to economic growth and social development. He called on traditional rulers, religious leaders, community stakeholders, youths and other relevant groups to collaborate with the local government in maintaining peace and strengthening the security architecture across Ikwuano.
He further appealed to residents to shun actions capable of creating unnecessary tension or undermining the peaceful atmosphere in the area. According to him, responsible citizenship requires collective vigilance, respect for constituted authority and a willingness to resolve disagreements through peaceful and constructive engagement.
The Mayor's position reflects his administration’s broader vision of building an Ikwuano where government is accessible to all and where citizens can participate meaningfully in the development process. He maintained that inclusivity is not merely a political slogan but a governing principle that should be reflected in policies, programmes and interactions between the government and the people.
Nwaubani assured the people of Ikwuano that his administration would continue to work with stakeholders across the various communities to foster cohesion, strengthen grassroots development and advance the common good. He urged residents to remain united and supportive of initiatives aimed at improving the fortunes of the local government.
He reiterated that his administration would remain committed to responsible leadership, equitable representation and people-centred governance, expressing confidence that a united Ikwuano would be better positioned to achieve greater development and prosperity for present and future generations.
The Mayor therefore called on all residents to see themselves as partners in the development of Ikwuano, stressing that the task of building a peaceful, prosperous and inclusive local government requires the collective contribution of government and citizens alike.
