“Everybody Is Saying, Sir, We Want You Back” — Ikwuano Mayor Nwaubani to Gov Otti

Abia State, August 19, 2026 —

The Executive Mayor of Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State, Dr. Anthony Nwaubani, has endorsed Gov. Alex Chioma Otti for a second term in office, declaring that the overwhelming sentiment among Abians is that the governor should return to Government House in 2027.

Nwaubani, while expressing his support for Otti’s re-election bid, said the governor’s administration had brought visible transformation to the state and restored confidence in Abia’s capacity to attract investment, improve infrastructure and deliver meaningful development.

The Ikwuano Mayor said the clamour for Otti’s continuity was not merely a political calculation but a reflection of the growing appreciation of the governor’s performance across communities in the state.

According to him, “Everybody is saying, ‘Sir, we want you back.’ The people are seeing what is happening in Abia, and they want this administration to continue. They want the good work to continue beyond 2027.”

Nwaubani maintained that Gov Otti’s administration had ushered in what he described as a new lease of life for Abia, particularly through its emphasis on infrastructure, road rehabilitation, public-sector reforms and other development initiatives.

He said, “When you look around Abia today, you will see a state that is changing. The roads are changing, the environment is changing, and the confidence of the people is returning. These are not things that can be hidden. They are visible to everyone.”

The Mayor further argued that the progress recorded under the Otti administration should not be interrupted, stressing that continuity was necessary to consolidate the foundations already laid by the government.

Development is not something you achieve overnight. When a government begins to put the right structures in place, the responsible thing to do is to sustain and consolidate those efforts. That is why I believe Gov Alex Otti deserves another term,” Nwaubani stated.

The Ikwuano Council Mayor also dismissed criticisms directed at the administration, urging Abians to assess the government based on tangible realities rather than political rhetoric. He said constructive criticism was essential in a democracy but should be anchored on facts and verifiable evidence.

He noted that Abia had, over the years, experienced significant infrastructural and economic challenges, adding that the changes witnessed under Otti had altered public perception of the state.

Nwaubani stated, “It is said that if you want to appreciate light, you need to have experienced darkness. Abians know where we were before this administration and they can see where we are today. That is why the people are speaking for themselves.”

He further stressed that the governor’s performance had restored pride among citizens and encouraged businesses and residents who had previously relocated from the state to reconsider their decisions.

According to him, “People who left Abia because of the condition of the state are beginning to return. Businesses are also showing renewed interest. When you have an administration that is creating an environment where people can live, work and invest with confidence, you must encourage that administration to continue.”

The Mayor called on Abians to remain united in their pursuit of sustainable development, insisting that political differences should not overshadow the collective interest of the state.

Nwaubani’s endorsement adds to the growing chorus of support for Gov Alex Otti’s 2027 re-election bid from political stakeholders and community leaders across Abia. Earlier reports have also quoted Ikwuano stakeholders as expressing confidence in Otti’s administration and declaring support for his second-term ambition.

He said the people of Ikwuano would continue to support initiatives capable of advancing the development of Abia, adding that the ultimate objective should be to build on the gains already recorded.

2027 is about continuity, stability and consolidation. We want Abia to keep moving forward. We want the projects that have started to be completed, and we want the reforms that have begun to mature. That is why we are saying clearly: Gov. Alex Otti must continue,” Nwaubani declared.

With the 2027 governorship election gradually taking shape, Nwaubani’s endorsement underscores the political significance of the growing calls for continuity in Abia and places the Ikwuano leadership firmly behind Otti’s bid for another term.
