Umuahia, Abia State| May 27, 2026 —
Hon. Emeka Tommy Jacob Obioma, Chief Whip of the Abia State House of Assembly and Member representing Umuahia South State Constituency, has joined millions of Nigerians in celebrating children on the occasion of the 2026 Children’s Day celebration, describing children as the greatest treasures of every society and the foundation upon which the future is built.
In a goodwill message released to mark the annual celebration, Obioma praised the courage, intelligence, creativity, and enormous potentials of children across Abia State, while urging society to continue investing in their growth, education, protection, and overall wellbeing. He noted that every child deserves an environment that nurtures dreams, inspires excellence, and provides equal opportunities for success regardless of background or social status.
The lawmaker emphasized that Children’s Day serves as a reminder of the collective responsibility of government, parents, teachers, religious institutions, and community leaders to guide young people toward becoming responsible citizens and future leaders. According to him, no nation can attain sustainable progress without prioritizing the welfare and proper upbringing of its younger generation.
Obioma particularly commended parents across the state for their unwavering sacrifices, resilience, and commitment in raising children despite prevailing economic and social challenges. He acknowledged the countless efforts of mothers and fathers who work tirelessly every day to provide food, education, moral guidance, and emotional support for their children, describing their role as critical to nation building and societal stability.
He also paid glowing tribute to teachers and educators for their dedication to shaping the minds and character of children through learning and mentorship. The Abia lawmaker noted that teachers remain indispensable partners in societal development, as they help nurture discipline, knowledge, leadership values, and confidence in young people who will eventually become the drivers of tomorrow’s economy and governance.
Hon. Obioma further applauded the administration of Gov. Alex Otti for ongoing reforms in the education sector and infrastructural development across Abia State, particularly efforts geared toward improving learning conditions in public schools. He stated that such initiatives demonstrate genuine commitment toward building a better future for Abia children and ensuring that the younger generation receives quality education in a conducive environment.
While celebrating the children, the legislator encouraged them to remain focused on their academic pursuits, avoid social vices, respect their parents and teachers, and cultivate values of honesty, discipline, hard work, and compassion. He urged them never to give up on their dreams, stressing that determination, education, and good character remain powerful tools for success in life.
Obioma also called on relevant authorities and stakeholders to intensify efforts toward protecting children from abuse, exploitation, violence, trafficking, child labour, and insecurity. He stressed that every child deserves safety, dignity, love, and the freedom to grow in a peaceful and supportive environment.
He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting policies and programmes that promote child welfare, youth empowerment, educational advancement, and human capital development across Umuahia South and Abia State at large.
“Children are the pride of every generation and the hope of a brighter tomorrow. As we celebrate them today, we must remain committed to creating opportunities that will help them thrive and achieve their full potential,” Obioma stated while wishing children across Abia State a joyful and memorable Children’s Day celebration.
