Member representing Umuahia North State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Barr. Anderson Kelechi Akaliro, has extended warm felicitations to children across Abia State and Nigeria as the nation commemorates the 2026 Children’s Day celebration, describing children as the foundation of a brighter and more prosperous future.

In a goodwill message issued on Wednesday, Akaliro praised the resilience, intelligence, creativity, and boundless potentials of children, noting that every society that genuinely invests in the welfare, education, and protection of its young population is laying a solid foundation for sustainable development and national transformation. He stated that children remain precious gifts to humanity whose dreams and aspirations must be nurtured with love, discipline, and adequate opportunities.

The lawmaker emphasized that the future greatness of Abia State and Nigeria depends largely on the quality of attention given to children today. According to him, providing access to quality education, moral upbringing, healthcare, security, and a conducive environment for learning and growth should remain a collective responsibility shared by government, parents, religious institutions, and society at large.

Akaliro commended Gov. Alex Otti for the ongoing reforms and developmental strides in the education sector across Abia State, particularly the renovation of schools, infrastructural improvements, and policies aimed at repositioning the state’s educational system for excellence. He noted that such deliberate investments in education would help equip children with the knowledge and skills required to compete favourably in a rapidly evolving world.

He further urged children to remain focused on their studies, uphold good morals, respect their parents and teachers, and avoid negative influences capable of destroying their destinies. The legislator encouraged young people to believe in themselves, dream boldly, and remain committed to hard work, integrity, and excellence, assuring them that their aspirations are valid and achievable through determination and perseverance.

While celebrating the occasion, Akaliro also called for stronger protection of children against abuse, exploitation, violence, trafficking, and all forms of social injustice. He stressed that no meaningful society can thrive when its children are exposed to insecurity, neglect, or denied access to opportunities that support healthy growth and development.

The lawmaker reaffirmed his commitment to supporting policies and initiatives that promote child welfare, youth empowerment, and educational advancement in Umuahia North and Abia State generally. He expressed optimism that with proper guidance and sustained investment in the younger generation, Nigeria would witness the emergence of responsible leaders capable of driving national progress and unity.

Children are the hope of a greater tomorrow. Their dreams matter, their voices matter, and their future must remain a priority for all of us,” Akaliro stated, as he wished children across the state a joyful, memorable, and inspiring Children’s Day celebration.
