Aguocha Applauds Appeal Court Verdict on Labour Party Leadership, Calls It Triumph for Democracy

The member representing Umuahia North, Umuahia South and Ikwuano Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon Obi Aguocha, has welcomed the recent judgement of the Court of Appeal of Nigeria dismissing the appeal filed by Julius Abure over the leadership dispute within the Labour Party.
The lawmaker described the ruling as a significant victory for democratic principles and a turning point in restoring stability within the party.

Reacting shortly after the verdict, Aguocha said the decision represents a major step toward strengthening internal democracy within political parties in Nigeria. He emphasized that the judgement not only resolves a prolonged leadership tussle but also reinforces the credibility of the Labour Party as a viable political platform for national transformation.

This ruling is a triumph for internal democracy and a pivotal moment in our collective quest to reposition the Labour Party as a credible alternative for all Nigerians,” Aguocha stated.
It sends a clear message that due process and the rule of law must always prevail over arbitrariness and personal ambition.”

The federal lawmaker further expressed strong confidence in the Nigerian judiciary, describing it as the ultimate safeguard of justice and fairness in the country’s democratic system. According to him, the outcome of the case reaffirms the role of the courts as impartial arbiters capable of resolving complex political disputes.

This judgement reinforces my unshakable belief in the Nigerian legal system as the last hope of the common man and the ultimate arbiter of truth,” he said.
The judiciary has once again demonstrated its capacity to protect the integrity of political institutions from administrative arbitrariness and leadership vacuum.”

Aguocha also used the opportunity to commend the Executive Governor of Abia State, Dr Alex Chioma Otti, for his role during the leadership crisis. He praised the governor’s steadfastness and commitment to preserving the ideals of the Labour Party despite intense political pressure.

Gov. Otti’s leadership during this turbulent period has been nothing short of visionary,” Aguocha noted. “By standing firm and refusing to allow the party to be derailed by personal interests, he ensured that the movement remained focused on its core mission of national renewal.”

In addition, the lawmaker extended appreciation to fellow elected officials across the National and State Assemblies who remained loyal to the party throughout the period of uncertainty. He acknowledged their resilience and dedication, noting that their commitment helped sustain the party’s structure and credibility.

I salute the resilience of our elected officials who stayed the course,” Aguocha said.
Their refusal to abandon the mandate given to them by the people is a testament to their character and commitment to the New Nigeria vision we all share.”

Concluding his remarks, Hon Aguocha called on Nigerians both at home and in the diaspora to seize the moment by joining the Labour Party in greater numbers. He stressed that the court’s decision offers a fresh opportunity to build a stronger and more inclusive political movement.

The doors of the Labour Party are wide open,” he declared.
I invite all well meaning Nigerians to join us as we work collectively to strengthen our democracy and rescue our nation from poor governance. Together, we can build a party that truly reflects the aspirations of every Nigerian.
