As the All Progressives Congress primary elections for the 2027 general election draw nearer, Senator Ahmed Wadada, the preferred successor of Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has appealed to stakeholders and leaders of the party to support his aspiration.
The appeal came as Wadada made moves to woo party stakeholders, including former Governor Tanko Al-Makura, to support his governorship bid.
Al-Makura had earlier expressed concern over early endorsements in the state, stating that he was not consulted before the announcement of Wadada as preferred successor.
Speaking during the visit of the former Inspector General of Police and governorship aspirant, Abubakar Adamu, the former governor described Wadada’s endorsement as premature, noting that the APC had yet to commence the sale of nomination forms.
He said, “I was never consulted as a major stakeholder before the pronouncement of a preferred successor. While it may be the governor’s personal decision, it is rather too early. The electoral process is in stages, and we are still at the point where individuals are indicating interest.
“Since the process is yet to commence, whoever is his preferred candidate or successor, it is his own. And he has every democratic right to wish to have someone that he wants to vote for because he has one vote, like each one of us.”
However, on Sunday, Wadada visited the former governor to seek his support.
Speaking during the visit, Al-Makura, however, expressed support for Wadada, adding that as an elder statesman, he would not engage in public commentary on the matter, but conveyed his goodwill privately.
Wadada, who was hosted to a briefing at the Nigeria Union of Journalists Nasarawa State Council secretariat on Sunday, urged stakeholders in the state to support his aspiration ahead of the 2027 elections.
He noted that Sule’s endorsement was a call to service, disciplined leadership, and continuity of development.
According to him, the governor had demonstrated “exceptional wisdom” in managing the political and developmental affairs of the state, adding that he was honoured by the responsibility to build on the administration’s legacy.
He said, “I stand before you today with a deep sense of humility, gratitude, and responsibility following the decision of His Excellency, Governor Abdullahi A. Sule, who formally, on the 16th of April 2026, at a meeting with political appointees, identified me as his preferred successor.
“I express my profound appreciation to His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for the warm reception when we visited him at the Villa a couple of days ago. I also appreciate His Excellency, Governor Abdullahi A. Sule, for this confidence.
“I extend my sincere appreciation to my respected fellow aspirants. Your aspirations reflect a shared commitment to the progress of Nasarawa State, and your conduct throughout this process has strengthened our collective democratic culture. I look forward to continued collaboration in advancing our common vision.”
Calling on party leaders and aspirants to come together in unity, Wadada said the task ahead required collective ownership, a shared vision, and disciplined execution.
“We must move forward not as individuals or factions, but as one Nasarawa, committed to stability, progress, and shared prosperity,” he said.
Wadada also expressed appreciation to traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth groups, women, and other stakeholders for their contributions to peace and stability in the state.
He unveiled his governance blueprint, the “HEARTS Agenda,” describing it as a people-centred framework designed to deliver inclusive growth and shared prosperity.
He explained that the agenda is anchored on six pillars: Human Capital Development, Energy and Mineral Resources, Agriculture and Green Economy, Rural and Urban Renewal, Trade and Investment, and Security.
“This vision is not about starting anew; it is about finishing strong and scaling impact.
“It builds on the institutional foundations laid by Senator Abdullahi Adamu, the agricultural revitalisation of Governor Aliyu Akwe Doma, the urban renewal of Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, and the industrial transformation advanced by Governor Abdullahi A. Sule, as encapsulated in the Nasarawa Economic Development Strategy (NEDS),” he said.
He added that the HEARTS Agenda represents continuity, reform, and measurable development outcomes.
“Together, we have the opportunity to position Nasarawa State as a model of continuity, consolidation, and performance-driven governance.
“With strong institutions, coordinated delivery systems, and inclusive economic growth, we will unlock new opportunities across the state.
“Across the three zones—Nasarawa South, North, and West—our commitment is to deepen development outcomes, expand economic opportunities, and secure a future that delivers tangible improvements in the lives of our people,” he added.
