The Member representing Isuikwuato State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon Lucky Udoka Nweke Johnson, has lauded the sweeping infrastructural renewal and administrative reforms underway at Abia State University Uturu, during its recent convocation ceremony.
The lawmaker described the ongoing transformation as a clear testament to purposeful leadership and a renewed commitment to educational excellence under Gov. Alex Otti.
Speaking on the sidelines of the convocation event, Hon. Johnson noted that the visible upgrades across the university’s facilities reflect a strategic investment in human capital development. He emphasized that the improved learning environment would not only enhance academic performance but also position ABSU as a competitive institution within Nigeria’s tertiary education landscape. According to him, the reforms signify a shift from neglect to intentional growth.
Hon. Johnson commended the Abia State Government for prioritizing education as a cornerstone of sustainable development. He stated that the infrastructural facelift, which includes renovations of lecture halls, hostels, and road networks within the campus, demonstrates a deliberate effort to restore the dignity of public institutions in the state. He added that such initiatives are critical in reversing years of decline and rebuilding public confidence.
“Governor Alex Otti has shown uncommon courage and foresight in tackling the decay that once defined many of our public institutions,” Hon. Johnson said. “What we are witnessing in Abia State University is not cosmetic intervention but a holistic reform that addresses both infrastructure and institutional efficiency. This is the kind of leadership that inspires hope among our young people.”
The lawmaker further applauded the management of ABSU for aligning with the reform agenda and ensuring that the changes are effectively implemented. He acknowledged the resilience and dedication of the academic and non-academic staff, noting that their cooperation has been instrumental in driving the university’s renewed progress. He also congratulated the students of the university, urging them to uphold excellence and integrity as they step into the next phase of their lives.
“I commend the university management for their proactive role in sustaining these reforms,” he added. “Their commitment to maintaining standards and fostering a conducive academic environment is evident. To the students, this convocation marks not just the end of a chapter, but the beginning of greater responsibilities. They must carry forward the values of discipline and excellence instilled in them.”
The convocation ceremony attracted a distinguished array of dignitaries, including the Mayor of Isuikwuato LGA, Chinedum Ekeke, and former Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development, Dr Uchechukwu Sampson Ogah. Also in attendance was Chief Allen Onyema, Chairman of Air Peace, alongside other prominent stakeholders who graced the occasion in solidarity with the university community.
Hon. Johnson concluded by reiterating his support for policies and initiatives that advance educational development in Abia State.
