The Niger State Government has vowed to ensure that Jafar Mohammed spends a very long time in jail for attempting to rape three underage girls in an uncompleted building.
She disclosed that she contacted the state governor Mohammed Bago, who ordered that the suspect should be handed over to the Commissioner of Police at the state police headquarters in Minna
Narrating the incident, Hadjia Kuta explained, “It was on February 11, when I received a phone call from a volunteer social worker, Mallam Hussaini that they had an issue involving a man who was caught with three minor girls in an uncompleted building and the girls were between the ages of five to seven.
“He said the main issue in contention was that the man had been caught before for the same offence, but he was surprised how he got released. He has come back, and he attempted to do the same thing. The last time he was released, even when he was caught red handed.
If they don’t follow up the case closely, he will be released again.
“I started making a few phone calls and told them to hurry up. If he is left, he will be released again. I asked them to send him down to Minna because if he is left in Kontagora, they would manoeuvre the case,” Hajia kuta said further.
The commissioner stressed that what transpired between the underage girls and the suspected rapist, how he attempted to lure them with candy sweets, but one of the girls raised an alarm that attracted passers by and neighbours led to the rescue of the girls.
“What actually happened was that the three minor girls were playing, and the man came to the area and told them to come that he was going to buy them sweet. So, he took them to an uncompleted building and put them there. Luckily for them one of the girls saw a small opening and she ran out and went to tell her grandmother.
“She spoke in Hausa that a man was about to use them. When they got to the uncompleted building, they saw the other two small girls. One of them was actually naked and lying on the floor, and the other one was just wearing her hijab. But the good thing was that because of the quick response and escape of the third girl, he was actually not able to have his way with the girls, but he was attempting to penetrate into one of them when he was caught.
“They caught him, and the people in the area started to beat him, but some people came and rescued him, and then they took him to the Area Command. I had to make a lot of phone calls. I quickly called his Excellency Mohammed Bago and he said I should go to the police commissioner and tell him personally that he had ordered that they should send down the man to Minna so that proper measures can be taken against him,” she Kuta added.
Meanwhile, the commissioner has urged the courts to expedite action on cases of sexual defilement against underage children, saying people like Mohammed should not be allowed to roam the streets of Niger or get any close to women and girls.
“The suspect even pleaded,” saying “please Hajia, this is a spiritual issue, and I am looking for medicine to cure it.
“That is not an excuse. He should be kept away from women and children. I hope this time, he is going to be kept behind bars for good,” she implored the justice system.
“I think on February 11 2026, one Jafar Muhammed, also known as Danlami, about 40 years of age, was arrested in Kotangora, in the Sabon Gari area of Kotangora. He was arrested in an uncompleted building with about three young girls between the ages of six and seven years.
“He had earlier enticed these girls to the uncompleted building with candy sweets and promised to give them other items.
“He moved them to this building and during an attempt to have sexual assault or defilement one of them raised an alarm which attracted some people within the neighbourhood and passersby ran to quickly mobilise to the scene and discovered that this Jafaru was trying to sexually molest these girls.
“Thank God the girls were rescued from the scene.
“Well, as it stands, based on the facts available at our disposal, that it was an attempt. The most important thing is that this suspect was equally arrested sometime last year. I think within June or July last year for a similar offence where he had sexually assaulted or defiled a three-year-old girl in Kotangora area and he was arrested and brought to police and he was investigated and charged to court but we really don’t know what happened in the court but he was discharged.
“And here we are again, trying to make an attempt to commit similar offence. Thank God he has been arrested again.
As I speak with you, he has been taken to the court again for prosecution, and as time goes on, we’ll know what is the decision of the court on this matter,” Abiodun said.
