Hon. Lucky Udoka Nweke Johnson, Member representing Isuikwuato State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, has described the recent judgment of the Federal High Court in Abuja on the leadership of the Labour Party as a defining moment that underscores the importance of unity, cooperation, and shared purpose in democratic leadership.
Reacting to the ruling delivered by Justice Peter Lifu, which affirmed the Nenadi Usman–led caretaker executive of the Labour Party in line with the Supreme Court verdict of April 4, 2025, Johnson said the judgment has brought clarity and stability to the party’s national structure. He noted that respect for judicial decisions remains fundamental to the survival of democracy and the credibility of political institutions.
In a statement issued on Friday, the lawmaker emphasized that the court decision should inspire leaders within the Labour Party to close ranks and work together in the collective interest of the people. According to him, “when leaders relate as partners with a common purpose, it becomes easier to deliver meaningful dividends of democracy to our people,” stressing that unity of vision is essential for effective governance.
Hon. Johnson commended Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, for his calm and principled leadership throughout the period of internal party disagreements. He said the governor’s steadfast commitment to due process, institutional order, and people-centred governance has helped to sustain public confidence in the Labour Party as a platform for progressive leadership.
Hon Lucky Johnson further described the affirmation of Senator Nenadi Usman as head of the caretaker executive as an opportunity for reconciliation and renewal within the party. He expressed confidence that her experience and administrative competence would guide the Labour Party toward a transparent, inclusive, and credible national convention that reflects the collective will of party members.
Johnson also called on party stakeholders across all levels to embrace dialogue, mutual respect, and internal democracy in the aftermath of the judgment. He warned that prolonged internal divisions undermine the party’s ability to provide effective leadership and distract from the urgent task of addressing the needs of the people.
Beyond party affairs, the Isuikwuato Rep noted that unity among political leaders enhances legislative effectiveness and improves service delivery at the grassroots. He said leaders who work in harmony are better positioned to formulate policies, attract development initiatives, and respond meaningfully to the socio-economic challenges facing their constituencies.
Hon. Lucky Johnson concluded by reaffirming his commitment to the ideals of the Labour Party, including accountability, social justice, and inclusive development. He expressed optimism that with legal clarity restored and leaders united by a shared purpose, the party would remain focused on serving the people and deepening democratic dividends across Abia State and Nigeria as a whole.
