Hon. Emeka Tommy Jacob-Obioma, Chief Whip of the Abia State House of Assembly and Member representing Umuahia South State Constituency, has welcomed the recent judgment of the Federal High Court in Abuja on the leadership of the Labour Party, describing it as a timely intervention that reinforces the rule of law and provides a clear pathway for unity and stability within the party.
Reacting to the ruling delivered by Justice Peter Lifu, which affirmed the Nenadi Usman led caretaker executive of the Labour Party in line with the Supreme Court verdict of April 4, 2025, Obioma said the decision has put to rest lingering ambiguities that had threatened internal cohesion. He noted that the court’s reliance on the apex court’s judgment underscored the supremacy of constitutional order over personal ambition.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the lawmaker stressed that the judgment should not be viewed as a victory for any faction, but as an opportunity for reconciliation and renewal. According to him, the Labour Party must now rise above past disagreements and recommit itself to its founding ideals of fairness, inclusion, and people centered governance.
Obioma called on party leaders and members across all levels to embrace dialogue, mutual respect, and collective responsibility in the aftermath of the ruling. He emphasized that unity remains the strongest asset of any political movement and warned that prolonged internal disputes only weaken the party’s capacity to serve the electorate effectively.
The Chief Whip also described Senator Nenadi Usman as a capable and experienced administrator whose leadership of the caretaker committee should be supported by all stakeholders. He expressed confidence that her stewardship would pave the way for a credible, transparent, and inclusive national convention that reflects the aspirations of party members nationwide.
Beyond party affairs, Obioma noted that political stability within the Labour Party is essential for sustaining focus on governance, legislative productivity, and grassroots development, particularly in states where the party holds elective offices. He said the clarity provided by the court would allow elected officials to concentrate on delivering tangible dividends of democracy to their constituents.
He urged party faithful to remain law abiding and to respect judicial pronouncements, adding that adherence to the rule of law is fundamental to democratic growth.
Obioma reiterated his commitment to the Labour Party and its reform driven agenda, stressing that the moment calls for maturity, restraint, and a shared vision for the future.
