Abia State |January 28, 2026 —

The Member representing Umuahia South State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Emeka Obioma, has recorded another landmark achievement in constituency representation with the commencement of reconstruction works on the Umuobia Housing Estate Road in Olokoro.

The development follows Hon. Obioma’s sustained advocacy and consistent engagement with the Abia State Government over the long-standing deplorable condition of the road. His interventions have now yielded tangible results, as construction equipment has been deployed to the site, signalling the official take-off of the long-awaited project under the administration of Governor Dr. Alex C. Otti.

The Abia State Government approved the reconstruction of the 1.4-kilometre Umuobia Housing Estate Road, which stretches from Spring Forth Junction. The project is being executed through direct labour by the Ministry of Works in line with the state government’s infrastructure renewal agenda.

Umuobia Housing Estate remains one of the largest residential settlements in Umuahia South, comprising four estates and serving as a critical access route for residents, commercial activities, and social services. For over fifteen years, the road suffered severe neglect under successive administrations, resulting in persistent hardship for residents and significant disruption to daily life within the community.

Hon. Obioma is widely acknowledged for bringing the plight of Umuobia residents to the forefront of government attention. Through persistent legislative advocacy and constructive dialogue with relevant authorities, he ensured that the project received the urgency it deserved and was eventually approved for execution.

Reacting to the commencement of the project, Hon. Obioma expressed deep appreciation to Gov Alex Otti for his responsive leadership and commitment to people-oriented governance. He described the intervention as a reflection of the administration’s resolve to address long-standing infrastructural challenges across Abia State.

According to him, the reconstruction underscores the importance of effective representation that prioritises the welfare of constituents and translates advocacy into concrete development outcomes. He reaffirmed his commitment to continuing to engage the government on projects that directly impact the well-being of Umuahia South residents.

Residents of the Umuobia Housing Estate have expressed gratitude over the commencement of the project, describing it as a long-awaited relief. Many praised Hon. Obioma for his dedication and results-driven leadership, while also commending Gov Otti for responding decisively to their prolonged infrastructural challenges.

The Umuobia Housing Estate Road reconstruction is being viewed as a testament to the dividends of purposeful representation and responsive governance. Community stakeholders believe the project will significantly improve mobility, enhance living conditions, and pave the way for additional infrastructure development within the estates and surrounding areas.
