INEC Commences Recruitment of Ad Hoc Personnel for 2027 General Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the recruitment of ad hoc personnel who will participate in the conduct of the 2027 general elections across the country.

The Commission announced that its INEC Portal for Recruitment of Election Staff, known as INECPRES, was activated on Friday, September 18, 2026, to enable eligible Nigerians to apply for various temporary election duties.

According to the recruitment notice, the application portal will remain open until midnight on Wednesday, November 18, 2026. Applicants have been advised to complete their registration within the stipulated period and carefully review the eligibility requirements before submitting their applications.

The recruitment covers five major categories of election personnel, namely Supervisory Presiding Officers, Presiding Officers, Assistant Presiding Officers, Registration Area Centre Managers and Registration Area Technical Support personnel.

INEC said eligibility varies according to the position, educational qualification, employment status, institution and other conditions specified for each category. Serving NYSC members, eligible former corps members, students of Federal and State tertiary institutions, qualified public servants, permanent staff of Ministries, Departments and Agencies, as well as personnel with relevant ICT backgrounds are among those who may qualify for specific positions.

For the Supervisory Presiding Officer category, eligible public and civil servants within the specified grade levels may apply. The Presiding Officer and Assistant Presiding Officer positions also include eligible tertiary institution students and other qualified personnel, subject to the requirements prescribed by the Commission.

The Registration Area Centre Manager position is primarily linked to institutions designated to host Registration Area Centres, while the Registration Area Technical Support category is intended for applicants with relevant information and communication technology backgrounds.

INEC has urged prospective applicants to ensure that they meet the requirements for their preferred position before commencing the registration process. Applicants are also expected to provide accurate personal, educational and employment information during the online application.

The Commission's recruitment exercise is part of its preparations for the 2027 general elections, which will involve the deployment of a large temporary workforce across polling units and other designated electoral locations nationwide. INEC had earlier stated that about 1.4 million ad hoc personnel would be deployed for the elections across more than 176,000 polling units.

The Commission has also cautioned members of the public against fraudulent recruitment platforms and individuals demanding money in exchange for election appointments. This warning is particularly significant because INEC had previously raised an alarm over fake 2027 ad hoc recruitment websites circulating online.

According to the notice, “The Online application will be available on the INEC website via the link inecnigeria.org (for both mobile App. and the Web Application).”

The commission further explained that applicants using laptop or desktop computers could access the web version of the platform through the INECPRES portal.

“The web version (using a laptop and desktop) shall be accessible via the portal URL: pres.inecnigeria.org,” the notice added.

For applicants using Android devices, INEC said the mobile application could be downloaded through the links provided by the commission.

“The Android mobile App. shall be accessible via the link inecnigeria.org/pres.apk or inecpres-app.com/pres-app.apk,” it stated.

Interested applicants are therefore advised to rely only on INEC's verified communication channels and official recruitment platforms when submitting applications and personal information.
The INECPRES recruitment window closes at midnight on November 18, 2026.
