The Member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North and Umuahia South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Obi Aguocha, has concluded an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) training programme designed to empower women and youths across the constituency with relevant digital skills for personal development, economic advancement and improved employment opportunities.
The programme, organised by Aguocha in collaboration with the Federal Cooperative College, Oji River, shows his commitment to human capital development, digital inclusion and the creation of opportunities for constituents to acquire practical competencies required to thrive in an increasingly technology-driven world.
The training brought together participants drawn from Ikwuano, Umuahia North and Umuahia South, providing a platform for beneficiaries to strengthen their understanding of information technology and explore opportunities in the digital economy. Its focus on women and young people reflects the growing recognition that digital literacy is indispensable to contemporary education, entrepreneurship, career development and participation in the modern workforce.
The initiative also highlights the importance of equipping constituents with marketable skills that can translate into sustainable livelihoods. As businesses, public institutions and other sectors increasingly embrace digital technologies, proficiency in ICT has become an essential asset for job seekers, entrepreneurs and professionals seeking to remain competitive in a rapidly evolving economic environment.
Through the collaboration with the Federal Cooperative College, Oji River, the programme further demonstrates the value of partnerships between elected representatives and educational institutions in advancing community development. Such collaborations can help bridge the digital divide by extending access to relevant training beyond conventional academic settings and creating pathways for beneficiaries to apply newly acquired knowledge in practical situations.
For women, the initiative represents an opportunity to strengthen economic participation, improve access to digital enterprise and expand their capacity to engage with emerging business opportunities. For youths, the training offers a pathway towards greater technological awareness, improved employability and the exploration of digital ventures capable of generating income and fostering self-reliance.
Aguocha's investment in skills development forms part of the broader expectation that constituency representation should extend beyond legislative responsibilities to include programmes that directly improve the capacities and prospects of the people. By prioritising ICT education, the federal lawmaker has drawn attention to the role of digital competence in addressing unemployment, supporting entrepreneurship and preparing young people for the demands of a changing labour market.
The successful conclusion of the programme is expected to encourage beneficiaries to put their knowledge to productive use while continuing to develop their digital capabilities. Sustained access to practical training, mentorship and opportunities to apply acquired skills will remain important in ensuring that initiatives of this nature deliver lasting benefits to participants and their communities.
The ICT training programme therefore represents a strategic investment in the people of Ikwuano, Umuahia North and Umuahia South, reaffirming the importance of equipping women and youths with the knowledge and competencies needed to participate meaningfully in the digital economy and contribute to the socio-economic advancement of the constituency.
