Electric Bus: Akaliro Welcomes Umuhu Inclusion, Thanks Otti, Ukaegbu and Aham Uko

Abia State| September 17, 2026 —

The Member representing Umuahia North/Ohuhu State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Barr. Anderson Kelechi Akaliro, has expressed appreciation to the Executive Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, for responding positively to the concerns of Ndi Umuhu and approving the extension of the state’s electric bus transportation service to the community.

The development follows an appeal by residents of Umuhu after the community was initially omitted from the list of routes announced for the newly acquired electric buses. The omission had generated concerns among residents and commuters who sought to be included in the transportation initiative, particularly given the importance of the route to the movement of people within the area.

Following the intervention and representation made on behalf of the community, the Umuhu route has now been included in the electric bus network. The buses will ply from the Terminal through Tower to Umuda Junction, thereby extending the reach of the transportation initiative and providing residents along the corridor with greater access to the new mobility service.

The Umuhu route officially commenced on September 16, 2026, marking a significant development for residents and commuters who depend on the route for their daily movement. The extension is expected to provide an additional transportation option while improving convenience and accessibility for people travelling between Umuhu and other parts of the area.

Reacting to the development, Akaliro expressed appreciation to the Executive Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, for listening to the concerns of Ndi Umuhu and responding positively to their appeal. He also acknowledged the contributions of the Commissioner for Transport, Dr. Chimezie Ukaegbu, and Dr. Aham Uko, for their roles in ensuring that the concerns of the community received the necessary attention.

Akaliro said the inclusion of Umuhu in the electric bus network demonstrated the importance of responsive representation and constructive engagement between communities and government, noting that the development would provide residents and commuters along the route with greater convenience and accessibility.

“I sincerely appreciate our amiable Governor, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, for listening to the cry of Ndi Umuhu and responding positively to their concerns. The inclusion of Umuhu in the electric bus route is a welcome development and shows that the concerns of our people are being heard and given due attention,” Akaliro said.

He equally thanked the Commissioner for Transport, Dr. Chimezie Ukaegbu, and Dr. Aham Uko, for their valuable contributions and support towards the realisation of the development, stressing that the successful inclusion of Umuhu in the route was a collective outcome of engagement and responsiveness.

“I also sincerely appreciate the Commissioner for Transport, Dr. Chimezie Ukaegbu, and Dr. Aham Uko for their respective roles and contributions in making this possible. This is not merely about an additional bus route; it is about inclusion, accessibility and ensuring that our people benefit from government initiatives. I am grateful that the appeal of Ndi Umuhu has been heard and that the route is now operational,” he added.

The lawmaker noted that the commencement of the Umuhu route would bring relief to residents who regularly commute through the corridor, while further expanding access to Abia State’s emerging electric transportation network.

Hon Akaliro also reiterated the importance of responsive representation, stressing that elected representatives have a responsibility to communicate the concerns of their constituents and pursue practical solutions through the appropriate channels.

For Ndi Umuhu, the inclusion in the electric bus network represents more than the commencement of a new transportation route. It signifies the extension of a government transportation initiative to a community that had sought to be included, while providing residents and commuters along the route with access to the service.

The commencement of the Umuhu route therefore marks another step in the expansion of Abia State’s electric transportation initiative, with Akaliro expressing confidence that the service will bring greater convenience and accessibility to residents of the community.
