The Chief Whip of the Abia State House of Assembly and Member representing Umuahia South State Constituency, Hon. Emeka Tommy Obioma, has reiterated his enduring commitment to the people of Olokoro, assuring the women of his continued support and availability whenever they require his intervention.
Obioma gave the assurance while attending the 40th OCDU Women Federated August Meeting held in Olokoro, where he joined prominent political leaders, government functionaries and other stakeholders to celebrate with the women and reaffirm his longstanding relationship with the community.
The gathering brought together women from across the Olokoro community and provided an avenue for interaction, solidarity and reflection on issues affecting the people. Obioma’s presence further underscored the importance he attaches to maintaining close contact with constituents and community stakeholders beyond the formal demands of political office.
The Umuahia South lawmaker was accompanied by the Labour Party candidate for Abia Central Senatorial District, Most Distinguished Senator Darlington Nwokocha; the Member representing Isiala Ngwa South State Constituency, Hon. Rowland Cesar; Deputy Mayor of Umuahia South, Hon. Enyinnaya N. Nwosu (ENN); serving councillors and other top government functionaries.
Addressing the women, Obioma, who described himself as an in-law to Ndi Olokoro, spoke warmly about his relationship with the clan, stressing that his connection with the community was founded on genuine affinity, mutual respect and sustained engagement rather than seasonal political considerations.
He proudly recalled that he had consistently attended the OCDU Women Federated August Meeting from 2022 to date, describing the continuity as a demonstration of his commitment to the women and the community.
According to him, “My relationship with Olokoro goes beyond politics. I am your in-law, and I have been here consistently from 2022 till today. I am proud to say that I am the only politician who has attended your August Conference consistently throughout these years.”
Obioma further assured the women that his support for them would remain unwavering, irrespective of political seasons or circumstances. He said his relationship with the people was built on a sincere desire to contribute to their welfare and respond to their concerns whenever called upon.
He stated, “Whenever you call on me, I will always respond. I will continue to stand with you and support you because this relationship is beyond politics. It is a relationship of family, trust and shared commitment to the progress of our people.”
The lawmaker’s remarks resonated with the gathering, particularly his emphasis on consistency as an essential ingredient of meaningful representation. His continued participation in the community’s annual women’s gathering has increasingly reinforced his image as a grassroots-oriented legislator who values sustained engagement with constituents.
The event also provided an opportunity for Obioma to interact with other political leaders and community stakeholders in an atmosphere of camaraderie and shared commitment to the advancement of Umuahia South. The presence of Senator Darlington Nwokocha, Hon. Rowland Cesar, Hon. Enyinnaya Nwosu and other government functionaries added political and communal significance to the celebration.
Beyond the speeches and ceremonial aspects of the August gathering, Obioma’s participation reflected a broader approach to representation in which political leadership is complemented by personal engagement, accessibility and community solidarity.
His relationship with Olokoro, as demonstrated by his repeated participation in the OCDU women’s annual gathering, has also provided a platform for him to maintain direct contact with women at the grassroots and remain abreast of issues that matter to them.
For the Chief Whip, the enduring bond with Ndi Olokoro represents an important aspect of his political and communal identity, reinforcing his message that effective representation should be measured not only by legislative responsibilities but also by accessibility, loyalty and continued presence among the people.
