As political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Member representing Umuahia North (Ohuhu) State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Barr. Anderson Kelechi Akaliro, has engaged his constituents, anchoring his campaign for a renewed mandate on his record of service, legislative interventions and commitment to the welfare of the people.

With the campaign window now officially open, Akaliro has maintained that the forthcoming election should be approached as an opportunity for the electorate to assess representatives based on tangible accomplishments, responsiveness and the capacity to translate public trust into meaningful results. His campaign, therefore, is expected to place considerable emphasis on what has been achieved during his tenure and the unfinished tasks that require continuity.

Akaliro has, over the course of his representation, pursued initiatives aimed at addressing some of the immediate needs of constituents, particularly in the areas of education, youth development, empowerment and social intervention. His efforts have included facilitating JAMB registration for beneficiaries, expanding educational support and scholarships, and supporting interventions designed to improve opportunities for young people within and beyond the constituency.

Beyond constituency interventions, the lawmaker has also used the legislative platform to draw attention to issues affecting communities and advocate solutions where necessary. His legislative engagement on matters such as erosion and infrastructure challenges reflects his position that effective representation should go beyond political visibility to include sustained advocacy for development and improved living conditions.

The lawmaker's constituency-focused approach has also earned recognition, including his emergence as the Best House of Assembly Member for 2025, an honour that underscores the visibility of his legislative and community-oriented activities. For Akaliro, however, the recognition is less a destination than an incentive to deepen his commitment to the people who entrusted him with their mandate.

As the 2027 political season unfolds, Akaliro is expected to take his message of continuity to the grassroots, engaging traditional institutions, community leaders, youths, women and other stakeholders across Umuahia North. The central thrust of the campaign is likely to be a call for constituents to compare promises with performance and judge representation by measurable impact.

Speaking on the renewed mandate he is seeking, Akaliro said his appeal to the people is anchored on the work already done and his determination to do more. He maintained that public office should be viewed as a responsibility to serve and not merely an avenue for political prominence.

I am asking our people to look at the work we have done, the lives we have touched and the issues we have continued to raise on behalf of our communities. Our people deserve representation that is accessible, responsive and committed to results. Where there is still work to be done, I am prepared to continue working with them to achieve it,” Akaliro said.

He further urged constituents to remain discerning as political activities intensify, stressing that the 2027 election should be about issues, performance and the future of the constituency rather than empty rhetoric. According to him, the electorate has the right to demand accountability and assess every candidate by what they have demonstrated in public service.

This campaign is about service, continuity and the future of Umuahia North. I will continue to engage our people directly, listen to their concerns and present a clear account of what we have achieved together. I believe our constituents are capable of making their decision based on facts, performance and the interests of our communities,” he added.

With the campaign season now underway, Akaliro's bid for a renewed mandate is shaping up as a contest centred on continuity and the strength of his constituency record. His message to the electorate is clear: the 2027 mandate should be entrusted to leadership that has demonstrated commitment, delivered interventions and remains prepared to build on existing achievements.
