Hon. Obi Aguocha, the member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has commended Governor Alex Chioma Otti for awarding the contract for the reconstruction of the historic Okpara Road in Ohuhu Umuahia North, describing the decision as a landmark intervention that will finally end more than six decades of neglect on one of the state's most symbolic road corridors.
The federal lawmaker praised the governor's commitment to infrastructure renewal and urban transformation, noting that the reconstruction of Okpara Ohuhu Road represents another bold step in the administration's determined effort to restore critical public infrastructure and improve the quality of life for residents of Abia State. According to him, the project demonstrates that the present administration remains focused on delivering tangible dividends of democracy to the people.
Okpara Road, named after the late Dr. Michael Iheonukara Okpara, the renowned Premier of the former Eastern Region, has for many years remained a shadow of its historic significance due to prolonged deterioration and inadequate maintenance. Residents and road users have repeatedly lamented the poor condition of the road, which had become a symbol of abandoned public infrastructure despite its strategic importance to the state's capital city.
