The Chief Whip of the Abia State House of Assembly and Member representing Umuahia South State Constituency, Hon. Emeka Tommy Obioma, has reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to development-driven leadership and quality representation, highlighting a series of legislative accomplishments and constituency projects that have positively impacted the lives of his constituents.
Speaking on his stewardship and future plans ahead of the 2027 political cycle, Hon. Obioma stated that his primary focus remains the advancement of Umuahia South through purposeful legislation, strategic interventions, and people-oriented projects designed to improve living standards across communities.
The lawmaker noted that education has remained one of the key pillars of his representation. He disclosed that in 2024, he sponsored more than 70 students for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), providing financial relief to many families and creating opportunities for young people to pursue higher education. Building on the success of the initiative, the number of beneficiaries increased significantly to 255 students in 2025, demonstrating his sustained commitment to educational empowerment.
Beyond educational sponsorships, Hon. Obioma facilitated the construction of classroom blocks in Olokoro and supported the renovation of existing school facilities within the constituency. According to him, investing in education remains one of the most effective ways to secure the future of the younger generation and create a foundation for long-term socio-economic development.
In the healthcare sector, the lawmaker has recorded notable achievements, particularly in his capacity as Chairman of the House Committee on Health Care. One of his most celebrated legislative milestones is the sponsorship of the Nursing Education Bill, a landmark piece of legislation that has successfully passed through the Abia State House of Assembly and is now law. The legislation is expected to transform nursing education in the state, strengthen the training of healthcare professionals, and enhance the quality of healthcare services available to citizens.
Hon. Obioma described the Nursing Education Law as a strategic intervention aimed at addressing critical challenges within the healthcare system. He explained that the legislation will create a stronger framework for nursing education, improve professional standards, and contribute significantly to the development of a competent healthcare workforce capable of meeting the growing health needs of the population.
The Umuahia South lawmaker also facilitated the establishment of a major healthcare centre at Ehume, Umuokpara, a project widely regarded as a significant boost to healthcare delivery in the area. The facility is expected to provide accessible and affordable healthcare services to residents of Ehume and neighbouring communities. Upon full operation, the centre will offer treatment for common ailments, maternal and child healthcare services, immunization programmes, antenatal care, and other essential medical services.
Further demonstrating his commitment to strengthening the healthcare sector, Hon. Obioma facilitated the employment of ten nurses into the Abia State University Teaching Hospital (ABSUTH) and Abia State Primary Health Care facilities. The initiative is expected to address manpower shortages in critical healthcare institutions while creating employment opportunities for qualified health professionals.
Infrastructure development has also featured prominently in the lawmaker's record of achievements. He facilitated the execution of key road projects, including the Umuopara Ring Road and the Abia Tower–Onuimo Road. These strategic projects have improved connectivity between communities, enhanced transportation, and stimulated economic activities within the constituency and beyond.
Constituents and community leaders have continued to commend the positive impact of these road projects, noting that improved road networks have eased movement, reduced travel time, and opened up opportunities for trade and investment in previously underserved areas.

These include the completion of borehole water projects across various communities, providing residents with access to clean and safe drinking water.
