The Member representing Umuahia North State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Barr. Anderson Kelechi Akaliro (Excess Grace), has emerged as the Labour Party's candidate for the Umuahia North State Constituency seat ahead of the 2027 General Elections, following a successful and peaceful primary election conducted by the party in Abia State.
Hon. Akaliro, who was returned as the consensus candidate during the party's primary held in Umuahia North Local Government Area, described the exercise as transparent, credible, and reflective of the democratic ideals of the Labour Party. He noted that the peaceful conduct of the primaries further demonstrated the unity, maturity, and growing strength of the party as it prepares for the 2027 electoral contest.
Reacting to his emergence, the lawmaker expressed profound gratitude to party stakeholders, delegates, and members for the overwhelming support and confidence reposed in him. He described his nomination as a call to greater service and pledged to continue delivering effective representation, people-oriented legislation, and responsive leadership to the people of Umuahia North State Constituency.
Akaliro also extended warm congratulations to the Governor of Abia State, Dr Alex Chioma Otti, on his resounding victory in the Labour Party governorship primary election. He praised the governor's transformational leadership, commitment to transparency, and determination to rebuild Abia State, noting that his achievements in office have earned him the trust, admiration, and overwhelming endorsement of party faithful across the state.
The lawmaker further congratulated the Member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North and South Federal Constituency, Rt Hon Obi Aguocha, and Sen. Darlington Nwokocha(Abia Central), on their successful emergence as Labour Party candidates for the House of Representatives and Senate respectively. According to him, their victories reflect the confidence reposed in them by party members and constituents who have continued to appreciate their contributions to democratic governance and grassroots development.
He commended Labour Party members in Umuahia North Local Government Area and across Umuahia North Constituency for their massive turnout, solidarity, and unwavering commitment throughout the primary process. Akaliro noted that the enthusiasm displayed by party faithful is a strong indication that the Labour Party remains united and well-positioned to record significant victories in the forthcoming general elections.
