The member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North and South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Obi Aguocha, has launched a scathing response to remarks allegedly made by a representative of Hon. Chinedum Orji, son of former Abia State Governor Theodore Orji and the APC candidate for the constituency, during a recent radio programme in Umuahia.
The controversy arose after a media aide speaking on behalf of Chinedum Orji reportedly claimed that Hon. Aguocha could not rival the legislative achievements of the former Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly. The statement has since generated widespread reactions across the political landscape of Abia State, with supporters of both politicians engaging in heated debates over their respective records in public office.
Reacting to the comments, Hon. Aguocha dismissed the comparison and questioned Chinedum Orji's willingness to personally defend his political record. In a strongly worded statement, the federal lawmaker described the former Speaker as a "timid wannabe" who allegedly relies on surrogates to speak on his behalf rather than directly engaging in public discourse.
According to Aguocha, the people of Abia State have not forgotten what he described as years of alleged mismanagement and abuse of public resources under the administration associated with the Orji family. He argued that attempts to rewrite history would not succeed because Abians remain conscious of the challenges they endured during previous administrations.
"The only record the Orjis have that Aguocha cannot and will never rival is that despicable record of stealing public funds for which they are currently being grilled by the EFCC. That is their trademark and patent right," Aguocha stated. He further maintained that his political upbringing and family background are rooted in integrity, accountability and service to humanity.
The lawmaker emphasized that he comes from a lineage where uprightness, simplicity and honesty are cherished values. He insisted that he could not be drawn into what he described as a competition with individuals whose names have been repeatedly linked to allegations of financial misconduct. Aguocha stated that his focus remains on delivering quality representation and improving the welfare of constituents rather than engaging in political grandstanding.
Highlighting his administration's priorities, Aguocha noted that his office would soon present a comprehensive summary of achievements recorded within his first year in the National Assembly. He said the accomplishments were achieved through legitimate public resources and careful planning aimed at improving the living standards of the people of Ikwuano and Umuahia federal constituency. According to him, the goal of his representation is not merely to provide temporary relief but to create opportunities that will lift citizens out of poverty and guarantee them a more decent and dignified life.
Continuing his criticism of the former Speaker, Aguocha alleged that any achievements being celebrated by his political opponents were funded through resources that did not legitimately belong to them. He insisted that such claims do not intimidate him and would not distract him from his mandate. "Daddy's boy can continue boasting with the few things he bought with stolen funds, Aguocha is not moved," the lawmaker concluded.
The exchange marks the latest chapter in what appears to be an intensifying political rivalry ahead of the 2027 elections. Political observers believe the verbal confrontation reflects the growing battle for influence within the Ikwuano/Umuahia federal constituency, where both camps are expected to play prominent roles in shaping the future political direction of the area.
