Residents of Agbama and several other communities in Umuahia South Local Government Area have commended the Chief Whip of the Abia State House of Assembly and member representing Umuahia South State Constituency, Hon. Emeka Tommy Obioma, for his instrumental role in attracting critical road infrastructure and healthcare projects to the area.
The commendation comes amid visible progress on several strategic projects spread across the constituency, many of which residents say are transforming communities, improving connectivity, and enhancing access to essential social services. Community leaders, youth groups, market women, and stakeholders from different parts of the constituency have described the projects as evidence of purposeful leadership and effective representation.
Among the projects receiving widespread praise is the reconstruction of the Agbama Estate Road, a major access route that serves thousands of residents and commuters daily. Residents noted that the road had deteriorated over the years, causing significant hardship to motorists and pedestrians, but expressed satisfaction that the project has since received the attention it deserves. Similar commendations have also trailed the ongoing construction of the Umuobia Estate Road, which is expected to further ease transportation challenges within the area.
Stakeholders also highlighted the ongoing construction of the new Specialist Hospital at Amachara, describing it as a landmark healthcare project that will significantly improve access to quality medical services for residents of Umuahia South and neighboring communities. According to them, the hospital, when completed, will not only reduce the burden on existing healthcare facilities but also strengthen the healthcare delivery system across the state.
Residents further pointed to the ongoing reconstruction of the Umuchime-Mbara Ogbodi Road, the Umuopara Ring Road, and the Eziama-Amuzu Road as major interventions that are opening up rural communities, stimulating economic activities, and improving movement of people and goods. They noted that these roads are crucial to agricultural productivity and commercial development, especially for farmers and traders who rely heavily on efficient transportation networks.
Particular appreciation was also extended for the completed Holy Ghost-Ahia Ukwu Road project, which constituents described as a testament to the government's commitment to delivering tangible development. Many community members observed that the completed road has already improved traffic flow, enhanced safety, and boosted commercial activities within the area. They equally welcomed the ongoing dualization of the Tower-Onuimo Road, describing it as a strategic project with far-reaching economic and developmental benefits.
Speaking on behalf of several community residents, constituents expressed gratitude to Hon. Obioma for his consistent advocacy and collaboration with the administration of Gov. Alex Otti in facilitating projects that directly impact the lives of the people. They noted that the visible presence of development projects across Amakama, Ubakala, Agbama, Umuopara, and other communities reflects a commitment to responsive and people-oriented representation.
The constituents therefore urged the lawmaker to sustain his efforts in championing developmental initiatives that improve the welfare of the Umuahia South residents. They expressed optimism that the ongoing projects, upon completion, would further accelerate socio-economic growth, create opportunities for businesses, and improve the overall quality of life for the people across Umuahia South State Constituency.
