Residents of School Road, Fimbar’s Road, Azikiwe Road, and parts of the Judiciary area in Umuahia have commended the Member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North and South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Obi Aguocha, for his swift and compassionate intervention following the vandalization of a transformer serving the affected communities.

The unfortunate incident, which reportedly involved the destruction and theft of vital electrical components by suspected vandals, plunged the affected areas into darkness for several days, causing severe disruption to economic and social activities. Residents lamented that the blackout negatively impacted businesses, households, artisans, students, and entrepreneurs who rely heavily on electricity for their daily operations and means of livelihood.

According to members of the communities, the development created widespread concern as commercial activities slowed down considerably, while residents struggled to cope with the harsh realities of prolonged power outage. Business owners, particularly those operating frozen food outlets, salons, tailoring shops, cybercafés, and small scale enterprises, reportedly suffered heavy losses during the period.

Community sources disclosed that immediately Hon. Obi Aguocha received reports concerning the vandalization, he responded without delay by visiting the affected transformer site to personally assess the extent of the damage. During the visit, the federal lawmaker interacted with residents and community leaders, reassuring them of his commitment to supporting efforts aimed at restoring electricity supply to the affected neighborhoods.

In what residents described as a timely and humane intervention, Hon. Aguocha donated the sum of Five Hundred Thousand Naira (₦500,000) to support the rebuilding and reinforcement of the transformer house. The financial intervention, according to community leaders, is also expected to strengthen security measures around the facility in order to prevent future attacks by vandals and criminal elements.

Residents further revealed that arrangements have already commenced for the replacement of vandalized cables, risers, and other damaged electrical installations within the coming days. This development has raised renewed hope among members of the communities who expressed optimism that electricity supply would soon be restored to the affected areas.

Speaking on behalf of the residents, Prince Okezie Ogbudu of Umuahia expressed profound gratitude to Hon. Obi Aguocha for standing by the communities during the difficult period. He described the lawmaker’s intervention as a demonstration of responsive and people oriented leadership, adding that the swift action restored confidence among residents who initially feared the blackout could linger for an extended period.

Prince Ogbudu further prayed for God’s continued guidance, wisdom, protection, and strength upon the federal lawmaker as he continues to serve the people of the constituency. He noted that the intervention reflected genuine concern for the welfare and wellbeing of constituents irrespective of political affiliations.

Residents also recalled similar interventions previously undertaken by Hon. Aguocha in Ajata Ibeku, Iyienyi Ibeku, and Umuajameze Umuopara communities, where he reportedly assisted in addressing electricity challenges affecting the areas. Community members noted that Ajata Ibeku and Iyienyi Ibeku had remained without electricity for about two years before the intervention efforts that eventually helped to restore hope to residents.

Many residents praised the lawmaker for consistently demonstrating accessibility, empathy, and commitment toward addressing pressing infrastructural and social challenges confronting communities within the federal constituency. They maintained that effective representation goes beyond legislative activities and includes timely response to the immediate needs of the people.

The residents further called on security agencies and electricity authorities to intensify surveillance around public infrastructure and ensure that perpetrators of transformer vandalization and related crimes are apprehended and prosecuted. According to them, attacks on critical public facilities not only undermine development but also inflict avoidable hardship on innocent citizens.

As efforts intensify toward restoring electricity supply to the affected areas, residents expressed optimism that the intervention by Hon. Obi Aguocha would accelerate repair works and help bring lasting relief to households and businesses across the affected communities in Umuahia.
