The Adamawa State Police Command has deployed personnel and intensified security operations to curb the resurgence of attacks by suspected “Shilla Boys” in parts of the state, particularly within the capital, Yola.
The command said security deployment and operational strategies across affected communities had not been compromised, while assuring residents that adequate personnel and tactical assets were actively engaged in crime prevention, surveillance, patrols, and intelligence-led operations.
This was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, and made available to journalists in Yola.
According to the statement, the command noted concerns raised in a social media publication regarding the alleged activities of the criminal group in parts of Jimeta, Yola, and neighbouring communities.
Nguroje said the Commissioner of Police, CP Kabir Umar Hassan, had ordered sustained day and night patrols, stop-and-search operations, and intensified monitoring of identified black spots to ensure the protection of lives and property.
The CP has equally ordered all Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers within the affected areas to strengthen visibility policing, enhance intelligence gathering, and sustain coordinated operations aimed at identifying and apprehending criminal elements terrorising residents,” the statement read in parts.
He stressed that the commissioner also directed the Violent Crime Response Unit and other tactical teams to intensify intelligence-driven operations, raid identified criminal hideouts, and strengthen community policing efforts to restore public confidence and improve security in the affected areas.
The police warned criminal elements to desist from unlawful activities, pointing out that ongoing operations were targeted at identifying, arresting, and prosecuting those responsible for violence, robbery, and public disturbance.
