Umuahia, Abia State| April 24, 2026 —
The member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North and South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Obi Aguocha, has reaffirmed his commitment to deepening development across Ikwuan/Umuahia, declaring that the current wave of reforms and impactful representation is only the beginning of a broader transformation agenda.
Speaking to Newsmen in Umuahia, Aguocha highlighted what he described as the growing visibility of his legislative impact both within Nigeria and on the global stage. He noted that his performance has attracted commendations from prominent leaders, including Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti and former presidential candidate Peter Obi, describing such recognition as validation of the work being done at the state and national level.
Reflecting on the question of impact, Aguocha maintained that the results of his representation are evident and widely acknowledged.
“Everything we are doing is good. I don’t think that there is any other representative in the state or national assembly that is recognised and acknowledged in Nigeria and globally as Obi Aguocha,” he said.
“Recently, Dr. Alex Otti, even Peter Obi, commended me for my representation on the national level. So the impact is there for everyone to see.”
He was, however, quick to stress that governance and development cannot be reduced to individual efforts, underscoring the importance of collaboration within the Labour Party framework. According to him, the strides being recorded in Abia are the outcome of a coordinated and collective commitment by elected officials working in synergy with the state government.
“It’s not only me that is doing the good work. Every other person is doing their own. Collectively, and our big Oga, Dr. Alex Otti, is also doing his own. When you put it all together, the Labour Party, which you gave the mandate to govern this state, has not disappointed you. So it’s not an individual effort. It’s a collective effort from all of us,” Aguocha stated.
On human capital development, the federal lawmaker reiterated his preference for long-term, sustainable empowerment over short-term palliatives. He pointed to his annual education support programme as a cornerstone of that philosophy, revealing plans to significantly scale up the initiative in the coming years.
“By the grace of God, there are batches. Just like those who were selected, some of these people were not selected in the first batch. My goal before the end of my first tenure is to give opportunity to between 2,000 and 3,000 people to get good education,” he explained.
“So rather than give rice, beans and other items, I would rather invest in human capital development. Whoever did not get the opportunity now will have another chance next time.”
Looking ahead, Aguocha signalled that more reforms and developmental initiatives are on the horizon, insisting that the current achievements represent only a fraction of what his team intends to deliver. He expressed confidence that ongoing collaborations between lawmakers and the executive arm will continue to yield tangible benefits for the people of Abia State.
“We’ve not even started. It’s not just Obi Aguocha. It’s a collective team of Labour Party elected officials working together in collaboration with our governor for the benefit of Ndi Abia,” he declared.
“Even the blind can see the impact of the Labour Party movement in Abia, which is far better than what was obtainable in the past 24 years.”
He concluded by asserting that the visible transformation across sectors in the state is a testament to purposeful leadership and a renewed focus on accountability and service delivery.
“Abia is on the move at all levels, whether in the State Assembly or the National Assembly. The most important thing is that Abians are seeing the handiwork and the good work that we are doing,” Aguocha said.
Political observers note that Aguocha’s remarks reinforce a broader narrative within the Labour Party, which continues to position itself as a reform-driven platform committed to redefining governance standards in Abia State.
