A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party in Kwara State, Olusola Moses, has urged governments at all levels to prioritise youth empowerment and job creation as a strategy to curb crime and reduce unemployment in the country.
Moses gave the advice on Thursday during an empowerment programme for over 500 youths, women and small-scale business owners in Oke-Ero Local Government Area of the state.
The PDP chieftain, popularly known as Success, distributed cash grants ranging from N50,000 to N100,000 to beneficiaries during the Oke-Ero Youth Summit held at Iloffa, the headquarters of the local government area.
The beneficiaries included artisans, traders, transporters and commercial motorcycle riders drawn from different communities across the council.
Speaking at the event, Moses said empowering young people with financial support and opportunities for economic growth would help reduce the temptation to engage in criminal activities.
According to him, providing economic opportunities for youths remains one of the most effective ways of promoting social stability and community development.
Party leaders who attended the event commended the initiative, describing it as a boost for grassroots empowerment and youth participation in politics.
The cash support was presented to beneficiaries by the PDP State Youth Leader, Adio Friday Odunjo; the party’s spokesperson, Olusegun Olusola Adewara; and the PDP Senatorial Women Leader, Margaret Abegunde.
They urged the beneficiaries to utilise the financial assistance judiciously and remain committed to the development of their communities and the progress of the party.
In a related development, Moses also presented a brand-new Toyota Sienna bus to a party youth leader, Aina Julius Olusola, popularly known as Lampard, in recognition of his loyalty and commitment to the leadership of former Senate President, Bukola Saraki.
Speaking during the presentation, the Kwara State PDP Publicity Secretary, Olusegun Olusola Adewara, popularly known as Sholyment, described the gesture as commendable and capable of inspiring dedication among party members.
He said the initiative would further strengthen unity within the party at the grassroots level.
The beneficiary, Aina Julius Olusola, expressed appreciation for the recognition, describing the gesture as motivating and encouraging.
Speaking on the objective of the empowerment programme, Moses said the initiative formed part of his personal contribution to promoting the leadership ideals of Bukola Saraki and strengthening the PDP in Kwara State.
