Umuahia, Abia State |December 3, 2025 —
In a renewed effort to strengthen grassroots participation in governance, the Member representing Umuahia North (Ohuhu) State Constituency in the Abia House of Assembly, Hon. Barr. Anderson Kelechi Akaliro, has stated that the voices of community stakeholders will play a central role in shaping his legislative priorities.
Hon. Akaliro made the declaration during an interactive session with some traditional rulers, youth and women leaders, which was part of his constituency-wide consultation, focused on identifying pressing community needs and deepening communication between the people and their representative.
Akaliro stated that meaningful governance cannot occur without the direct input of those who experience local challenges daily.
“Your voices will shape our legislative decisions,” he declared. “Representation means carrying the aspirations of the people into the House of Assembly. That is why I am here, to listen, to understand your needs, and to ensure your concerns become the foundation of our legislative actions.”
He emphasized that inclusiveness remains a non-negotiable pillar of his leadership style.
“No community will be sidelined, no group will be ignored,” he said.
“Every ward, every village, and every stakeholder has a role to play. I am committed to a model of governance where decisions are informed by the realities you share with us.”
Hon. Akaliro also outlined the importance of frequent engagements between elected officials and constituents, noting that the feedback received from such meetings guides development priorities.
“When you speak to us, you help us make better decisions,” he explained.
“Your insights direct us on what projects to pursue, what policies to advocate for, and how to push for equitable distribution of resources.”
He also encouraged community leaders to remain proactive in communicating emerging issues, adding that development thrives when leaders at all levels work in synergy.
“The partnership between the government and the people is crucial,” he said.
“I want you to know that we are building a constituency where leaders and citizens work hand in hand. Your openness helps us to respond quickly and effectively.”
The lawmaker reassured the stakeholders of his unwavering commitment to transparency, accountability, and continuous consultation.
“I will always return to the grassroots to hear from you,” he assured.
“Your feedback is not just important; it is essential to fulfilling the mandate you have given me.”
Community leaders present also commended Hon. Akaliro for his accessibility and willingness to engage directly with the people. They described his representation as a refreshing departure from political leadership styles that rarely prioritize community consultations, and pledged to support him in steering development across Umuahia North.
