The 22nd Convocation Ceremony of Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic, Aba, on Friday, December 5, 2025 became a powerful affirmation of Abia State’s renewed commitment to educational excellence as Hon. Lucky Johnson, member representing Isiukwuato state constituency in Abia House of Assembly, joined Gov Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, and other dignitaries to celebrate the institution’s latest graduating class.
The ceremony, which drew top government officials, academic leaders, community stakeholders, and proud families, highlighted the significant progress being recorded across the state’s tertiary education sector under Gov Otti’s administration. From infrastructural renewal to institutional reforms and sustained support for academic development, the current government has continued to reposition Abia’s schools as centers of innovation and quality learning.
Speaking, Hon. Lucky Johnson commended Gov Alex Otti for the remarkable steps taken to rebuild confidence in the state’s tertiary education landscape, describing the reforms as timely, strategic, and deeply impactful.
“What was witnessed yesterday at Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic is the result of intentional leadership. Dr Alex Otti’s reforms and initiatives like the free education program, recruitment of qualified teachers, and provision of smart schools, are restoring excellence and bringing back the prestige of tertiary education in Abia State,” he said.
Hon. Johnson noted that the improvements across Abia’s educational institutions were no coincidence but the outcome of a deliberate commitment to nurturing a generation equipped with skills, knowledge, and values for national development.
“Our Governor has continued to prioritize the needs of our higher institutions. From improved funding to better environments for teaching and learning, these reforms are laying the foundation for a brighter future for our young people,” he added.
Hon Johnson celebrated the leadership of the polytechnic, particularly Rector Prof. Christopher Okoro Kalu, highlighting his role in transforming the institution. He also congratulatulated the graduating students, acknowledging their hard work and resilience.
